Post subject:  2-3 Hard Shift

I have always had a 2-3 hard shift that is completely random other than it only happens on lighter throttle, but not every time. Sometimes its cold, sometimes its hot, nothing seems to line up. Just did the Suncost TC, transgo (I did the snap ring and the pump parts/cover seal, not a new pump) and obviously a full fluid and filter change. It seems to be happening less but it has happened a couple times since driving it again. Anyone know what this is? Also, I know the 545RFE can do a relearn, how do you initiate that? The battery was unplugged for over a week at a point, would that be enough to initiate a relearn?

What you describe is a common problem.
Its happened to me a few times but I've never felt the need to do anything about it.

What some folks have done to fix it:
replace the transmission with a newer one out of a Ram 1500.
replace the valve body and solenoid pack.
Or only replace the solenoid pack.

Something you can try is, when driving at speeds below 20mph, pull the shifter down to 2nd, then when you accelerate to above 20 shift into D (3rd). The transmission normally shifts into 3rd at about 20mph.
Yeah, its a work around and not an actual fix, but so is idling for a minute before shifting into R or D to avoid the delayed engagement/fluid drainback problem.

Do a quick learn on the trans and see if it stops happening. If the problem returns after a quick learn, it means your clutch packs are too worn and you need a rebuild/replacement.
