There are two (IIRC) gaskets on the inner timing cover which seal openings against the block. Does anyone happen to have part numbers for these? Edit: nm... they appear to be included in this kit! https://www.idparts.com/timing-belt-gas ... -2785.html |

I've had my timing covers off a few times. Never felt the need to replace those gaskets. They dont hold in any fluids, so...?  Maybe if you were deep water fording, then they might be kinda important

I'm positive it's them in the kit:  Mine have been oil soaked and are falling apart. I'm putting way to much time & money in on this to skimp on a pair of gaskets... I don't want any excuses for anything!

Because there is oil literally everywhere on the engine. Everything is oil soaked! It could be from whatever was going on with the RMS coupled with wind buffeting, but given the injector valley was filled with liquid oil as well, my suspicion is that oil loss from the RMS resulted in the owner topping off frequently and making a &^%&(! mess everywhere, all the time. |

Yeah, the PO was probably a bit sloppy when topping off with oil. You ever tried adding oil with the engine running? Yes, its a dumb idea. And you'll need a shower as soon as you remove the oil cap. |

For simple gaskets, you can get some good gasket material paper from NAPA and make your own gaskets. Made plenty of them over the years! Trace the old ones out on the gasket paper and cut them out. Pencil, scissors, and hole punch is all that is needed. |

I also have never replaced any of the timing cover gaskets even though I got new ones included in some of the kits but I understand the need to replace them in your case. |
