Well – I’ve got about 10 minutes before my next meeting so I’m going to list some questions I think should be here– and then later I’ll search for links to answer them. 1) EGR fails – symptoms, fixes (TSB ?) http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=1257&highlight=egr http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=8114&highlight=provent 2) Provent – what is it?, why do I need it?, where do I get it? How do I install it? http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=3697&highlight=provent http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=584&highlight=provent 3) (When will Old_Navys better fix be available?) http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=8225&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=provent&start=0 4) Transmission problems – symptoms, fixes (TSB?) 5) What kind of oil do you recommend? Oil filters? 6) Biodiesel – how well does it work? Where’s it available? What are the potential problems? http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=3314&highlight=biodiesel http://www.biodiesel.org/buyingbiodiesel/retailfuelingsites/default.shtm 7) Additives fuel? Oil? http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=7879&highlight=frankenlift http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=4862&highlight=frankenlift (interesting - I'm not an Emoticon kinda writer - and the editor changed my 8Parenthesis to a smiley face? - it doesn't change the meaning - just looks weird) |

Everyone has their favorite brand. I personaly use Amsoil Euro 5W40. 6) As far as availability, I know there is none near me. The closest pump (B20) is 120 miles away and you need a fleet card to access it. Im sure it differs across the nation. 7) I use power service in the grey bottle every few fill ups. 8] Not everyone wants to lift the CRD. As far as I know there is the Frankinlift II from AllJ products, and the daystar, that seem to be holding up to the added weight of the CRD. My .02 |

as far as adding to fuel: How about Propane and/or NOS?? Ive heard of puting Prop. injectors in the air hose right after the airfilter. also Diesel can run off of NOS full time. wandering how a Bio D / NOS or propane mix would run... |

As far as BIODiesel, living in Austin is a plus for you as there are several public pumps available in the downtown area and you are closeish to the first BIO-Willie truck stop in Carl's Corner (not a practical stop for you, but interesting none the less). BIODiesel works very well on the CRD. It significantly drops your visible emissions, and will make that charectarstic deisel noise much quieter. Additionally, it tend to get a little more mileage out of the tank. Use the link below to find your nearest alternative fuel source. It won't void your warranty, but as with any fuel, be picky about the cleanlyness of the station. If they have a dirty pump, they likely don't have the best quality fuel. http://afdcmap2.nrel.gov/locator/findpane.asp |

The following chart should be used as a guide in determining the amount of engine idle time required to sufficiently cool down the turbocharger before shut down, depending upon the type of driving and the amount of cargo. TURBOCHARGER (COOL DOWN CHART) From Service Manual: Driving Load / Temperature Before Shut Down / Turbocharger Idle Time (in minutes) Condition Stop & Go Empty Cool Less than 1 Stop & Go Medium Warm 1 Highway Speeds Medium Warm 2 City Traffic Max. GCWR Warm 3 Highway Speeds Max. GCWR Warm 4 Uphill/Grade Max. GCWR Hot 5 |

The OEM skid plates for my tranny, transfer and fuel tank are 1/4" (I just measured them), the front skid on mine is 3/16" but it is heavley ridge for strength as are the others. I could be wrong, but I will have to look again at the '06 with skid package and take a measurement. It did however look the same thickness as mine, but heck when we are talking only a 1/16" difference it ain't no big deal unless I guess you are rock crawling then I would not want any OEM plates that is for sure. |

You will not need a heater if you are using biodiesel, if however you want to run reclaimed veggie oil without converting it to diesel then you will need a heater for the WVO (Waste Veggie Oil). Now I would not run WVO in a Common Rail System myself untill someone else has done some long term testing, you might end up being out for a lot more in repairs then you saved on fuel. I would not even want to use anything over B20 (20% neat biodiesel and 80% petro diesel) till there are some CR diesels with a couple of hundred thousand miles of testing under their hoods. |

ferd eggan wrote: does the jeep crd have a fuel-cooled injector pump? As I stated above, it is fuel cooled IP. I sometimes do not express myself well. Age and it's problems, daughter and grandson living with us, wife back in college and just tired most of the time.

CHECK YOUR DRAIN PLUG FOR A COPPER GASKET! After doing my first oil change I was poaring my oil into a can to bring to recycling.I found a small copper ring in bottom of pan. Could of easily been L.O.S.T. in the oil. I posted this as a answer to another post and felt it should be posted here so everyone has this info. Before you pull the oil drain plug all the way out use your fingernail to make sure the gasket is Not stuck to the pan and will come off with the plug. |
