Any advice on the value of a 92 wrangler with a lowish mile 4BT, with 5 speed would be much appreciated! 147k miles on the clock and stock suspension. |

So many variables but considering the cost and labor involved to replace with the 4BT and the fact that in about 3 years one should be able to get a reasonably priced diesel wrangler used ( not sure if it has a manual trans option ) I would say around 8k but thats just a guess. I would be interested to see what others think also. |

What it'd be worth to me and what the market thinks are probably quite different. |

Yeah 10-12k wouldn't be outrageous but from what I remember that engine would be underpowered compared to other conversions but depends on what you want it for etc. Plus being that old a vehicle decreases value a bit so older and limited in ways better in other ways. |

The Cummins R2.8 Common Rail Turbo Diesel Crate Engine dropped into a four door Jeep Wrangler would be sweet. Many improvements over the older 4BT engines. A very nice 4 cylinder turbocharged Cummins engine without all the problems and issues of the 2.8 CRD engine. Comes ready to drop in with Universal Vehicle Wiring Harness, ECM, Throttle Pedal, starter, flywheel, etc... A little pricey, but very nice.

The Cummins swap makes anything more wonderful! In this case we are all really guessing without pictures. The other problem is that this work has been done to a 92. Rear ends, and tranys in this vintage rig were not known for their durability. If this was a 2000, or above TJ it would be a slam dunk. The other key is you have to find that right person who wants a modified rig. $8k for a very nice TJ can be had, but being modified you might only push that number to the buying market, that is flooded with used rigs for maybe $10k. You have to be willing to step back from what you know it is worth to you in time, and materials, and realize what you can really sell it for. That can be hard for any of us who have married ourselves to a rig. |

What you are getting with the old 4BT is durability that no modern passenger diesel can match. There are also plenty of ways of getting really good power out of them. If I recall correctly, you could get 300HP and 600 Ft-lbs of torque out of them and not have any reliability issues. The only downside to these would be their weight, but that is the very same thing that makes it durable. |

Yeah, being that you can put one of those new cummins kits in for $9k, plus a grand of welding in motor mounts and miscellaneous stuff. And an older wrangler with a blown engine is cheap, so the old swaps are kind of obsolete. Although I might still prefer the mercedes 5 cylinder 3.0 (617?) As they are 100-150 pounds lighter than the Cummins, but still have iron head... Thanks for all of the comments, I passed on the $10k cummins jeep. There's one listed in OK currently for $7500 obo with the mercedes engine. Looks like it might be a steal! I can try to track down the link if someone is interested. I think it's on Facebook CRD Only group actually. |
