Hello, Can anyone tell me a diagnostic tool that is able to display live data on the 2004 kj 2.5 crd 143 hp? I have a cheap elm but it doesn't display any data, just weird made up numbers, it works on other cars but not on this one. I've looked at a lot of tools but even the OBD Jscan app on Google Play shows just Cherokee/Liberty KK so no point in buying a scanner compatible with that. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

I have never heard of a USA spec 2.5 CRD! The USA only got the 2.8 L variable vane turbo in 2005 and 2006. Where are you located? The 2.5 L CRD was only made for the Export market from 2002 to halfway through 2003. The Export market then got the 2004/5/6/7 Export CRDs...similar to the USA models. I have a 2002 2.5 RHD manual here in SA and have conversed with similar vehicle owners in Spain, Greece, Australia, UK, Poland etc. but not USA.....if you have one in the USA then someone imported it! The 2.5 L CRD has always been impossible to get a code reader to work as they use a PCI BUS which most readers cannot handle. Later KJs came out with CAN, SCSI Busses with a little PCI. I drove my 2002 Export CRD into the local Bosch Dealers and asked them to read out any stored code. The Technician took one look at my Bosch ECM and shook his head! You can try the "key" trick to get codes out until the 2005 models. Without starting the engine rapidly turn the ignition ON/OFF three times. After the 3rd ON time leave the ignition ON and the Odometer Display will show the stored codes from the oldest to the Newest. Note that that this "3 times ON/OFF" appears to work on the USA models....Export models such as mine needs 4 ON/OFF actions.....I have used this many times! The codes are only stored once...if you get multiple P0123 codes it will only show once. The last two digits can sometimes be transposed...a Code of P0123 may be displayed as P0132...I have never seen this happen! You cannot erase the codes with this method. Try work out what type of Turbo you have: fixed-van or variable-vane. What problems are you having? |

Oh, sorry, I'm located in europe and I was told its usa spec.. Anyhow, this is the vin 1J8G6N8754W291635 Built in 23.04.2004 in Toledo, OH. Hmm, is there any place I can read about its PCI bus? Basically by what you're saying it is an export model, i think. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=90948 This is my problem, it has a really high fuel consumption...it has wastegated turbo, which seems to work ok. I basically want to see live data to figure out what may be wrong with it . |

U.S. spec CRDs had the R428 engine and were only sold in 2005 and 2006. |
