Been trying to figure out the correct grit for a cylinder hone, but I only find dimensions in the manual. Moly coated? Ductile iron? Chrome coated? Sheesh, too many types out there! |

Sheesh, too many types out there! If I had to guess, I would say Chrome. Iron are for Chrome bore. Moly is a bit high tech for the VM engine. |

Thanks. I'm also looking at getting some of the old style rings made, unless someone has found a source? |

Genuinely curious here.... Why? I've got an engine driving around right now with 3 original and 1 new bucket, piston, and rings. Seems to be just fine. Why mess around with the old rings other than to reuse the pistons? |

Why mess around with the old rings other than to reuse the pistons? Tons of like new used pistons but would be nice to have new rings. The value of the jeeps now so low that putting new style piston set in wipes out the profit. So you're running one new style with 3 old style pistons? |

Yup, on the engine that had swallowed a valve at idle or low speed. It hadn't locked the block and once I got the head off it was able to run all the way around. I MIGHT not have had to change the sleeve, but did it anyway. The rods are weighted and balanced, the pistons aren't. So no issue with 1 new and 3 old. Mileage has been good. |

I hope to hear about it racking up many miles. I think this engines has a 10% tolerance for cylinder combustion force |
