I once parted out a CRD that had a control module in the rear fender wall area. Anyone know what it was? I'm finishing up the part out of a rusty 05, and wonder if I should waste the time digging into those walls for a module that might be worth a lot...

Possibly TPMS modules or rear tail light/turn signal/trailer tow wiring modules come to mind.

Satellite radio tuner. That could have been a lifetime-active unit (RARE!) and if so, it would be a shame to let go to the crushers. The tuner is installed in the rear passenger fender wall. If it has the CD changer in the back, it will not have the tuner.

As geordi suggested, definitely check that one to see if it's a lifetime unit. XM stopped offering that package over a decade ago, so it's a useful item if still working.

I let our XM subscription run out a few months ago; they're not really providing anything we can't stream from our phones these days. If the service was free, however, that's a slightly different proposition.

Thank. As for xm, I called to cancel twice in the last 2 years, and they keep making it cheaper. Now I'm at about $6 a month, but so many commercials...

Yep, we did the same thing and paid about the same price after saying we were leaving, but, like you say: so many commercials. The channels we liked to listen to were also becoming increasingly-repetitive in their programming, and traffic updates (its real value to us) for the navigation system were often 20-30 minutes behind reality.

Yeah, I shouldn't have let myself get conned into another subscription, but I tend to trade stocks a lot in the winter, so maybe I can use Bloomberg if the FOMO rally finally fizzles

Right rear is where the Sirius radio or Bluetooth hands free modules reside

It is also worth the effort to salvage the harness that goes from the module to the radio head unit. I installed sat radio in my CRD, the sat receiver can be picked up on flea bay for as low as $10, but that interconnecting harness was pricey. the sat antenna can still be picked up NOS for less than $100.

Since we are all so familiar with these... Has anyone gotten the tuner to work with a NOT STOCK head unit? That's my biggest issue with these, that I'm trapped with the crap factory radio, even the RB1 unit fails to display anything useful on the screen about program or track name.

Speaking of modules, I'm curious if you located your Keyless entry receiver. I am having problems with my key fobs. I looked for my unit and there was nothing on my BCM under the dash. I had located one in that position in a junkyard Lib beforehand, i like to practice my surgeries on cadavers. I also looked inside Passenger front. no luck there either.

Its attached to the 06 bcm, but I can't remember at the moment where it is on the 05's. I'll post a link in a minute that talked about that.
Can't find it, maybe I'll think of it eventually.

There are two parts to the Remote Keyless Entry System, the receiver (antenna) and the actual module located on the back of the BCM.

From the 05 FSM: Section 8W, page 97 - 4 8W-97 POWER DISTRIBUTION
from FSM wrote:
The junction block also provides the mounting location for the Body Control Module (BCM) (Fig. 1) and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Module. Refer to the Electronic Control Modules section of this manual for more information on these two modules. The body control module is secured to the junction block assembly with four screws and multiple electrical connectors. The remote keyless entry module is mounted on the body control module via a single built-in electrical connector.
With the junction block in its normal mounting location the body control module and remote keyless entry module are not accessible.

The receiver circuit for the TPM system is integrated into the WCM. The WCM also includes the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) receiver and the Sentry Key Immobilizer (SKIM) receiver.
The Sentry Key REmote Entry Module (SKREEM) is sometimes referred to as the Wireless Control Module (WCM). The SKREEM is located on the right side of
the steering column near the ignition lock cylinder housing and an integral molded plastic antenna ring circles the ignition lock cylinder like a halo. The
SKREEM and its antenna are concealed beneath the steering column shrouds.

Well, all that I know for sure is that it is not attached to the bcm on the 05's, but you also discovered that :5SHOTS:

If that is the case, then the 05 FSM is totally wrong on it's information.
But it would not the be first time we have found disparaging data in the FSM. :banghead: :furious:
I looked, the 06 FSH lists the same information on the location of the components.

I had looked in the FSM and found the same info. I have been to a dealer and another key maker. Neither could connect to the unit to reprogram the fobs. 5for5 MM :5SHOTS:

The incorrect information in the 05 FSM likely came from the advance writing based on the design changes for the 06 - b/c the elimination of the FCM from 05 shifted that function also into the BCM / fuse panel module.

I know this is not helpful for locating it on an 05, but if there is an 03 / 04 manual floating around, perhaps it is in there?

I can't imagine that the module is too far away from the fuse box however, simply b/c it has no reason to be located far away from right behind the instrument panel area. Maybe toward the center behind the A/C plenum? That's a total guess though.

I'm confused - my understanding was that RKE and SKREEM on the 2005 models were built into the receiver around the ignition lock that also handles TPMS since there's no BCM on an '05. Am I off-base on any of this?
