I am thinking of buying a module 3(90hp) but at $570 i want to make sure people are tickled pink with it and that it really does what they say it does. What is you mpg with it? Does it tow better?

Anyone have one for sale cheaper or used?

Just ordered one as well. If anyone is interested I sent a "best offer" of $500 for the one on e-bay and that is what I paid delivered.

just installed mine yesterday. The CEL came on and after contacting SP Diesel they told me to ship it to them and they would replace it for free. Awesome customer service by the way. I sent an email to them at 10 o'clock at night and 5 minutes later received an answer. Earlier that day when I was installing the module and didnt know where all the cables go, I sent an email and received an answer 5 minutes later. The codes the CEL threw were low boost and somethind with MAP correlation, whatever that means. Sean from SP Diesel said it wouldnt hurt anything, but I should send it back anyway. I expected a little more power, but Im satisfied (as long as the CEL problem gets fixed).

Got a brand new programmer and harness from SP Diesel the other day and now everything works perfectly.

I don't think 90 hp is reasonable with that plug in...probably more like 20-30% increase in hp and torque. Still 200 hp and 365 torque would be nice!

One thing to keep in mind about the hp ratings on a chip. (I don't think it would dyno at 90 hp either, but just for the sake of those who are unfamiliar with reprogrammers...)

1. The 90 hp they quote is likely not 90 at the peak of the curve. Even if it does add 90 ponies, it will probably be at the high end of the RPM's.

2. A chip will give you the most performance boost if you have already opened up the exhaust. I haven't been around the CRD enough yet to know whether that is a major point of constriction or not, but with some of the pickups I have had, exhaust gave me more bang than turning up the turbo or adding a chip.

3. Most chips work by altering fuel delivery. While it is likely difficult to fry things just running up and down the road empty, if you are planning on towing make sure you add an EGT guage before doing anything with the fuel delivery.

These are just my experiences with other diesels, so any of you guys who have been playing with the CRD's please correct me if these statements are not universal.

The other thing is that you do not want a module that dials up the boost...because of the heat (EGT) mentioned. Usually the safe modules are the ones that change the "pulse length" of fuel delivery...squirts fuel in longer at the same rail pressure. Gotta be careful of modules that significantly "raise" fuel pressue in a high pressure CRD...a little is usually ok but I would rather be safe than sorry.

As long as the programmer does not try to change too many parameters of the stock ECU and it just changes the "pulse length", it will probably help "especially is you add a high flow exhaust.

In another thread someone said that under similar driving conditions, EGT's are even lower with the SP Module.

I agree with what people say about the power gain. I dont think the claimed 90 hp are true. It "feels" more like 50hp at the most.
I still have to evaluate the Fuel Economy mode, it delivers more power but I cant say yet if it helps to increase mpg. The high power settings
are a little disappointing since they dont add as much power as I expected. All the higher levels really do is let the engine rev up higher and faster. Maybe the programmer will show more significant results when towing something....
The most noticeable difference can be experienced when accelerating while cruising down the road in overdrive. Increase in torque is really noticeable at that point. I only had the programmer for a week now, so I cant make any conclusions yet. One thing is for sure though, I wouldnt pay $600 for this thing. I payed $430 for mine and was willing to spend $500 at the most.

If I remeber correctly it has 9 or 10 settings...I think I remember that they suggested to go no higher than 5 maybe 6...

I bet the 50 ponies you feel is due to the torque increase...You probably did get to 190 hp tho and 340 ft pounds or so...That would be worth it and mileage should stay about the same as long as you don't test WOT all the time...

The settings are:

FE
0
1
2
...
9
HO

Who suggested to go no higher than 5 or 6? If it was SP Diesel, why would they say something like that?
