Reading this site and another for CRD's, I am feeling a little worried about my recent purchase, an '05 Liberty (Build Date 05/17/05). Am I destined to have a EGR, TC and Transmission failures like alllllllllll the poor souls on here and the other site have or is this just a small percentage of unfortunate people? How many CRD owners reading along have NOT had these issues, and have more than 25K on the odometer? |

Although I have not been EGR replacement free (replaced at ~9000), keep in mind those people with problems are most vocal.... Additionally, the problems I thought were transmission related were resolved after the EGR replacement. The dealership service manager explained that the "gear fishing" I was experiencing was likely due to the lack of engine power being experienced as the EGR was failing. In looking through other EGR related threads, it seems like the problem occurs much sooner if you do alot of stop and go city driving verses longer highway only trips. I can't speak to the TC issues that have been discussed. |

800 miles on a 06 here and only a heater hose blowing off because the clamp was not on right. The dealer did the body TSB at the same time |

If you want to "feel better" through an insurance policy about your purchase, then get a Provent 200. Otherwise, do the Transmission TSB's if your transmission build date falls in the range of needing new filters. Check this forum for the approriate TSB's and how to determine if your transmission falls in the appropriate build date. Otherwise just drive it, it's meant to be driven and eats up long journey trips. If I had to listen to my gut, I think this engine just wants to be run constantly on the road to be healthy. I usually average about 400 miles a week all highway. Maybe that's got something to do with prolonging MTBF of EGR, who knows? |

11,000 miles here, on a CRD built in June 05. No transmission, torque converter, or EGR failures. I do rarely experience slight shudder after accelerating hard to 55mph. I'm running Rotella 5W-40 syn oil and usually B20 fuel. |

Built 5-5-05. With 21,000 miles on her so far. About a week ago I had the EGR go for the first time. I am still waiting on the parts. Other than that no other problems associated with the CRD. I did have bad hub bearings from the factory. They where replaced right after I bought it. But, this had nothing to do with the diesel Jason |

There was a Poll posted a while back - of the folks who responded less than 1/2 had to replace the EGR (I was on the replace side at 8,000 miles - now at 20,000 - no other problems) http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=5868&highlight=poll+egr |

Just purchased 05 Liberty CRD, after reading this site and others for over 1 year, I knew there might be some issues, but knowing a diesel likes to be driven, and having drove a VW TDI for 250,000 miles, many of them had EGR issues, but look at my signature, provent will be before winter. If the wife drives it around town during the week, the weekend it gets 100 miles on it, they have to run. Shudder who knows, I took a chance on the TransGo kit and I don't have it anymore, will it work for everyone? Ask me in a year. So I purchased mine after reading all the doom and gloom here, and believe me I feel their pain and don't doubt its happening, but I love diesel, can't live without it. So I took a chance and so far I love the vehicle and have fixed all of the potential problems so far. Thanks in no small part to all the pioneers here on this site. |

14000 km on my March 05 build here is Australia, no EGR issues - but I believe the failures in the USA could be because you guys don't generally run Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (its standard here and Europe). Had Provent installed at 2000km - a must do in my opinion, you'll need to drain it every few thousand k's. Had Tranny software TSB - had slight shudder before, but gone now after the tranny re-learned. New Disk rotors at 9000km's (warped from factory and got progressively worse shudder in steering wheel under brakes). Other than that all ok and the Diesel is great for highway or round town. Excellent off-road and I enjoy driving it. |

Less than 11k on the clock and have had the EGR replaced, two glow plugs, and the tranny shudder is still unresolved. Also the best I can get mileage wise is 20.5 mpg hand calculated on 53 cetane fuel. |

6,000 miles on my 05, never a CEL, never been to the dealer. Experienced the surging that some call tranny shudder once a few thousand miles ago and never again. The crankcase vent dumping oil in the intake is my only real complaint so far. It can be bandaided for $10 or fixed properly for $150 with a Provent. So far I really love it. I would do it again. I would get another if I had the need and the resources. |

Like you I bought a used Liberty after reading this forum for months. Build date of 2/18/05 had 5400 miles, now 13000. Have not had any dealer attention. Commute 52 miles a day, 2 miles dirt, 7 stop and go and rest interstate. Mileage has been steady 24-25 at speeds from steady 65 to flow with traffic up to 95. Could not be happier, but waiting to try towing. William |

11,000 miles on my 05 Limited. The trans will shudder if I let it, but I work around that with the accelerator. EGR has been trouble free. I took it back to the dealership once regarding the trans shudder, and they said they couldn't reproduce it. I haven't been back, so the Jeep technically has had NO dealer attention. |

'06 with a 2/06 build date. 2,500 miles and no problems yet other than a slight shudder around 55 that happened only 2x. |
