wrench size?

Does anyone know right off hand what size the transfer case fill/drain hex wrench size is? I tried several standard allen wrenches, figure it must be good 'ole metric. Oh, so I take it you have to remove the skid plate to check the front diff oil? I have looked it over and figure that is the only possible way, good job DCX....haha. Thanks for you help.

On my 2005 Liberty CRD, these drain plugs take a 10 mm Allen wrench. They require much less torque than the oil drain plug.

Thanks for the info! If I was to guess at it, that would have been the size I picked. I was going to get a 10mm and 12mm to be safe, now I can just get the 10mm, but knowing me I will buy a set of metric allen sockets because I'm sure there will be lots of other places to use them, besides you know the saying " you can never have enough tools!". haha. Thanks again.

P.S. I was surprised it didn't mention the torque specs on the front axle fill plug in my service manual, especially it being an o-ring plug like everyone is telling about.

Here's one for Ripley: the drain plug on my '05 takes an 8mm allen wrench. :shock:

Yes there was a post on here awhile ago that they (DCX) have updated that to an actual hex head drain plug. Must be too many people were using standard allen wrenches on the original style and stripped them out. Who knows, I have seen quite a few different drain plugs on my Dodge/cummins trucks.

I saw that post the other day. I contacted 2 Jeep dealerships in my area about the new drain plug. I go the same response from both of them: HUH??? Not many parts people know about the drain plug being updated & neither dealership had photos of the new design.

Just why would they? It is just an oil drain plug, although be it an unusual size and a real expensive pain if one is installed cross threaded. Do the Fumoto Drain plug adaptor install and end the drain plug oil change nightmare. Lubrication Specialist FUMOTO oil drain adaptor
