About how much tranny fluid do I need to buy, no hint in the TSM or OM for amount of fluid it holds. I'm guessing 2.5 qts, but I would hate to buy 3 qts and find out I need 3.5 qts or have to take one quart back. |

Our CRD's use a NP242 transfer case and it was also used in a Cherokee. I just checked my Haynes Cherokee manual and it calls for 3 pints. I've changed Cheroke's transfer cases and think that's correct. So if you get 3 quarts you should have half left over |

Just looked in my FSM and they claim 3.4 pints for the NP242 case, so 2qts. should give you plenty. |

2 quarts was enough to fill the t-case. Had enough to fill my arm pit, coat the garage floor, and a small amount left in the bottle. |

I may just go buy a cheap bottle of AutoZoo brand, dump the oil, clean it out, and do my thing. All though W-M has a pump for it's brand of gear oil, may look into that tomorrow morning for future useage. |

Started with the rear diff because of the curing time of the RTV. Decided do the t-case first while waiting for the RTV to cure. If had to do again, would have waited until filling the rear diff and reused one of the squeeze bottles from the diff fluid. I guess we all get greasy and learn from the experience. May want to look around Walmart. Would swear I saw a cheap hose adapter that screws directly onto the top of a standard oil/ATF bottle. |

That would be too cool, guess I know where I am going in the morning or tonight. It's a superstore open 24 hrs a day for my shopping pleasure. |

Use the top off the gear oil bottles on your 1 quart tranny bottles,as long as they are the normal ones and not the wide mouth kind that mobil1 comes in they fit and work nicely. |

Bought the pump and a bottle of $1.88 Wally World tranny fluid that I poured out and then cleaned out and now I have a pump bottle kit for doing gear oil changes. Total cost including pastry was $11, nothing like a good fat pill once in a while. |

Got everything ready, took off the skid plate and removed the top plug and then carefully started to remove the bottom plug and after last thread I slipped and let a bunch spirt out past the small oil pan onto garage floor. On another note the fluid that drained out looked and smelled just like the Mobil 1 tranny fluid I put into the transfer case. That may have something to do with lack of use of the 4x4 system, it use has been for a couple of days of snow and tried it a couple of times during heavy rain. |
