I am new to the forum and new to the CRD. Just picked up my '06 a couple of weeks ago.

I started right out of the gate using a fuel additive that we used in commercial applications in Alaska. I have sinced used it in my commercial semi's here in Iowa. The product is called Howes Lubricator. They also make a product called Meaner Power Cleaner which controls water just as well and also keeps the entire system and egr valves cleaner.

If you buy some of the Lubricator and hold onto the receipt, they will pay the tow if you gel up in the winter.

Since I started using the products in the early 90's, I have hardly ever found water in the separators even though I go through over 20K gallons a year purchased at various locations. Howes claims that their products "encapsulate" the water molecules and pass them through and burn off. Same for the parifin molecules, it doesn't allow them to bond together and gel up in cold weather.

You usually can only find the products at truck stops, but it worth the effort. Power Service is a good product so I won't get into the "who is better" debate. I only know that after almost 3 million miles of driving North America from the Mexican border to Arctic Circle, the Howes products are very reliable. I have NEVER had a gel-up even when operating down to minus 70F. Same with water, never have had a problem and have very rarely had water collect in the separator.

I am glad I got the CRD! It seems like a fun vehicle and I look forward to a long time enjoying it!
