Would this maybe have something to do with the fact that I have a spacer lift that compresses the stock springs? Maybe the shocks are not road friendly

I would attribute it to both, but moreso to the spacer than the shock.

I'd get a set of rear OME springs and see how that feels. Not too expensive to try out, I'd imagine.

Every Liberty I've ever been in the backseat with (Read: 5) of various model years has been like riding in the back of a school bus.

It's.... NORMAL. :) Stock or modified, the ride is rough in a KJ. It's what made me want a Liberty!

I have a problem with my CRD. The wife doesn't want it anymore because of the ride quality. The front it fine, it's the back seat that is really bad. ..... When riding in the back seat, it gives bouncy an all new meaning. You feel each and every bump. It's enough to make you physically sick.

I thought this is a Jeep thing. Funny, there are a couple sections of I-77 on my commute that does it to me in the front seat. Highway ride quality is not this vehicle's best attribute.

Exactly why I will not be lifting mine(at least with a spacer kit). It rides rough as it is. It is a JEEP though, not exactly the cadillac of the suv world.

Springs(instead of pucs) and Air Pressure (might be too high)...seems too simple but the air pressure might make a big difference

I increased the tire pressure from ~32 to 44psi, resulting in a noticable increase the ride harness. I would at least check your tire pressure and reduce to maybe 26-28psi.

May be some good info for you on this thread.

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... om+springs

If you find something that works for you let us know spring lengths rate etc..

You could always remove the lift in the rear and see if the stocker rides better. That way you could eliminate the lift as the cause with minimal work. Might be the tires too. Maybe try switching them back if you eliminate the lift as the cause. My crd is a little rough but nowhere near a wrangler. Something's wrong.

OK first of all let me say THE SPACER LIFT DOES NOT MAKE THE RIDE ROUGHER. I am so tired of hearing people say that and most of them don't even have a spacer lift.

Now, as for your problem... three things are causing you to have a rough ride. 1.) BDS shocks. The factory shocks are MUCH smoother and will work with your lift kit. I ran my factory shocks with 2.5" Daystar lift and it worked fine and was much nicer on the highway. Try putting your factory shocks back on and you'll be surprised how well it does. Factory shocks ride smoother with the lift kit than they do without it. 2.) Your Goodyear tires have Kevlar built into them. This is a very strong material and reduces the flex in the tire, hence you feel every bump. Try using a different AT tire with a C load rating and you'll see a big difference. Also try running PSI in the low 30s. 3.) It's a JEEP, not a Cadillac. It was engineered to be useful off-road, and therefore it is normal like they all said to ride rougher on the pavement. Your wife needs to understand this. If she wants a smooth riding pavement pounder, she shouldn't have been looking at Jeeps.

Good luck!

For what it's worth, I had a similar experience with an old Dodge K-body. Did a routine shock replacement and the aftermarket rear shocks were much firmer than the originals. Ride quality was unbearable and eventually replaced the rears with a softer model.

I also put in the Daystar lift. As the pucks in the back only lift the vehicle up and do not change the springrate or pre-load on the springs the harshness can be caused only by aftermarket shocks or by harshness (pressure) in the tires.
I have ProComm shocks in the rear -which are pretty firm- and had to lower the tire pressure to 33 psi, this stopped the complaints from my 17 year old rear seat passenger. 40 psi was regarded as severe and unusual punishment! Today we went on a bit of an extended journey and all was good!
