I am still trying to figure out this transmission. When I drive to work I have about 1/2 mile from start on paved road before I come to a hill. I try to have the Liberty in 5th and the cruise locked on before I hit the hill with the cruise set pretty close to 60. This morning the cruise did not kick in as soon as I hit it so the MPH dropped enough that I downshifted into what seemed by sound and tach to be 3rd, about 2100 RPM. After I broke the hill the cruise settled back in at 60 and the Liberty shifted back up to 5th (I only felt one shift.) So someone posted here that 4th coming down was really not the same gear as 4th shifting up. If that is so then what gear is it? There have been times where I have had to slow for traffic and when I do the TC unlocks and I need to get back over 64/65 MPH before it shifts into 5th, other times it does it on its own under the same situation. Still not sure how it works so if you do tell me. |

The different kick down gear is 2nd if I remember correctly. Remember that third on the CRD is a 1:1 ratio which is basically drive in most vehicle. Our 4th and 5th are really overdrives .8? and .6? to one. I would not worry too much. Plus when your tranny is not completely warmed up it will shift different. |
