Post subject:  Gauges= No Warranty?

Went to the dealer the other day after I went to a local mechanic to check how much they charge to install 2 gauges. Well I asked the dealer if it will void my warranty if I install gauges. Took me about 15 min to explain to them what GAUGES are, I was talking to the assistant service manager by the way. Well finally they told me that it will void the warranty because it messes with the onboard electronic system and it alters the vehicle blablabla....
Is that right? I call BS on that.

I'd call BS as well. They can't void your warranty unless the modification causes the part failure.

dealers are something else. ours told us that our warranty would be voided if I did the routine maint. myself???????? guess I just voided the warranty as I did the first oil change on wed.

The only guage I could see possibly voiding any kind of warranty is a pre-turbo EGT guage. All the others do not do alter anything, they simply tap into wires and/or provide their own sending units. Sounds like another desk jockey not knowing anything about vehicles!

Guages do not modify a vehicle, improve performance or interfere with the ECU...voiding a warranty for "guages" is the best one I have heard yet :?

Even that is okay. They would have to show that the pre-turbo EGT system actaully caused something to fail.

My bet is that he want to charge you AND Jeep for the warranty repair. It's a good way to make a profit

We might as well include a "Moron Gauge" on our wish list to determine if the service person we are speaking with is pegging the gauge!

If the service guy is speaking...he IS pegging the guage.

When I met with the service reps from Jeep last week they hinted the same thing (and checked mine) because it's indicative of a tuner chip being used. They wouldn't come out and admit to it but got the impression they believe some of the transmission & torque converter problems are related to tuners being used.
