First day of owning my 05 CRD... CEL goes on. I pull out my trusty code reader.... transmission codes. (low pressure etc.) Looks like I am going to have to take it in to have the TSB performed. Anyone know of anywhere online where I can pull a copy of the service history of this jeep or do I need to try to talk the service manager into doing that for me? I saw that there had been one update performed (sticker in the engine compartment), but would like to know what else will need to be done....

Anyway, I was supposed to show the new truck off to the co-workers and inlaws, so I cleared the codes and figure they will probably come back within a couple hundred miles. On the bright side, I have put about a hundred miles on it and the gas gauge hasn't moved much. Hope that is a sign the engine is broke in a little...

Check the TSB for the trans that deals with wrong filters, check transmision build date against the list of those with the wrong filter. Sounds like you will have a match. The early symptoms are are exactly as you described.

Thanks. I haven't gotten a chance to climb under there to look for the sticker, but the jeep was built 4/05. (don't remember the day off the top of my head)

Additional question for those of you who have danced this dance before... Am I better off to take it to the dealer and tell them what I know, or will that be considered offensive? I hate to play dumb, but then again it may be a good way to guage the quality of the service from this dealer. (There are three within 20 minutes of my house or work)

I know what you mean...My 3.7L (18.5 gallon tank) would be near the "E" at 190-210 miles...Right now my CRD is at 260 (20.5 gallon tank) and is just barely below the 1/2 mark. I keep passing the gas station I used to stop at every three days or so and almost turning in out of habit.

Former Expedition driver here... which explains both my familiarity with the gas station and the reason I always carry a code reader!

I walked in w/ a copy of the TSB and told the Service Writer I wanted it done. He started to give me a line of "We have to recreate the problem". But I cut him off, pointed to the TSB in my hand, explained that my xmission Serial # fit within the TSB, that they should perform the service, and call me when it's done. SW wasn't really happy about being told what to do but they did the work.

I don't trust SW's to know their arse from a hot rock.

Hmmm, guess I'm doing pretty good. Last couple of months commuting to work, by the time I hit the 1/2 mark I'm at 300 to 320.

Don't know as I'd let it go too long before getting it into the dealer. Might be something fixable but could also be the proverbial time bomb that means new tranny if left to itself. Might be old fashioned of me, but I STILL don't completely trust even the newer auto trannys.

Well... a bit of an update on this. I went by the dealer to pick up some paperwork and asked the service manager to print a list of maintenance performed on the CRD before I got it. Found that the previous owner had never taken it in to the dealer for anything, but the dealer I bought it from did the flash update during their pre-sale inspection. Hopefully that is an indication they are willing to take the bull by the horns when I throw the tranny codes again.

On the bright side, I filled up with fuel and got 23.6 mpg on my first couple hundred miles. Hope that trends upwards.... 8)
