Be careful not to mix the Nitrogen with just regular air, if your tires are low. Nitrogen and air make a volatile mixture. :shock:

that means when u hit the trail and air down that your gonna have to find Nitrogen to air back up!!! but i've also heard it does improve gas mileage!!!!

Ah so im not the only one on this forum with costco tires. Well i have to say i am getting very responsive steering now when compaired to my old bridgestone Dueler H/T's. I mean i really have to try to loose traction in the rain. For those in PA, you know that last night was really wet, perfect time to test :-)

Would the increase in responsiveness be directly related to the N2 in my tires? Or is it the better tire?

I just got some new tired from Costco, and they come Nitrogen Filled, rather then Air. Nitrogen filled tires don't need to be reinflated come winter time, since Nitrogen doesn't expand and contract due to temperature. It was also advertised as a way to improve gas milage. Has anyone experienced a gain in MPG with Nitrogen filled tires? I will report back with my mpg come next gas tank....

From what I've heard, nitrogen only improves your gas mileage because it holds air better in your tires. So if you keep an eye on your tire pressure, there isn't much difference.

sweet. looks like all i need is a N2 tank..and a pump if i need to reinflate, but they do it for free anyway, the inflation that is.

I've also heard that it adds at least 10 horsepower. But, helium works even better. That way you can just float over all the obstacles like a hot air balloon.

nitrogen is an inert gas, causes no harm to be mixed with anything. and its no lighter than air, the only benefit is that there is no moisture which can rust your rims. if you had dry air to begin with, there would be no concern.

The main purpose of using nitrogen in tires is the stability. It does not react to temperature changes as much as air does. That's why it's commonly used in aircraft tires, as well as in shock absorbers. As long as the tire doesn't leak, it will hold a more consistent pressure. Therefore, it may ever so slightly aid in mileage over time. You still need to monitor your tire pressure just as often as you normally would, because car tires will lose some air over time. Then all you have to do is take it back to Costco everytime you need to add if you want to stay with the nitrogen.
