Okay, I know this is a little out there, but wouldn't you think, that the front skid would promote having less wind resistence, with the wind being deflected, rather than drag through the engine bay and parts. This might improve freeway mileage. I have heard that smoothing the underside of the body can improve mileage and speed with less wind resistence. But on the negative, unless you went with the lighter mopar style, you'd get a negative mileage hit with the weight in stop and go traffic. What do you guys think? |

Honda apparently smoothed out the bottom of the Pilot to gain fuel efficiencies. Check the article I linked in the "weight reduction" thread. The front skid isn't very smooth and it has gaps. My guess would be that you would need a full body skid that would flatten all the gaps underneath. Have you looked under there lately? Maybe putting diamond style metal plating would probably help. It would not be too heavy and probably be easier to replace if it was put in with interlocking sections. |
