Post subject:  Short trip mileage

I live in a college town, and the commute to school is about 2.5 miles from my apartment. Anyways, during that trip, there's about 4-5 stops I have to make from signs/lights. The area also has moderate up and down hills occasionally. I'm getting about 14-14.5 MPG and I'm going easy on the gas. Is this the typical mileage I should expect? Should I maybe baby the throttle a bit less and get up to 40 and 4th quicker? I'm thinking I might actually be accelerating too slowly to be effective.

With that kind of stop and go short distance driving 14-16 is about as good as I've ever gotten.
You might try a long trip say 200-300 miles and see how that works.
My experiance has been that the stop and go is a real milage killer.
