| Post subject: | Lifting and Gas Mileage |
Just wondering what everyone is seeing as far as lift kits and gas mileage drops? At least I assume a lifted vehicle (Say 2 inches) will get worse gas mileage since theres more wind drag? |

Not really more drag as long as you keep the nose down. The front floats up a speed. |

So like with the popular daystar kit at 2.5 inches of lift I shouldn't see any noticable decrease in gas mileage? |

There is a very slight increase in drag, probably negligable, as the only additional surface exposed would be more tire area. I think the big mileage increase comes when people go larger tires to go with the lift. |

Yep, I found the lift alone didn't do much if anything, but swap out the tires to some MTR's and say goodbye to some mileage. (2-3 less with mine) |

i have the 2.5 inch skyjacker lift , 245s, cold air intake and exhaust and i get 14mpg |

I went 124 miles last night on 4.76 gal at 75 mph, thats 26mpg with a 14mph head and tail wind so it equaled out. You darn right nose down makes a diff There AIN't more drag with a lift unless your close to level.....the front rises in flight!!!! That Cold Air intake is killing you at speed, your gas money 
Yes, a mudder will hurt the consumption. I wax with teflon and use all synthetic lubes

I have had a Jeep YJ for years. Now own 2003 Lib Renagade. I was thinking of a cold air intake, and have been reading that it is bad on gas. But the Liberty is not known to been a fuel efficient suv, I knew that buying it. Any suggestion?

I put one in a few weeks ago (no lift)...and it didn't change my milage either way. Hopefully i'll be spending my saturday morning changing exhaust systems, hopefully the two together will make a difference. |

I think i didn't see any difference with just the FIPK because almost 90% of my driving is highway or 60mph backroads w/ few lights and i was already averaging almost 22mpg on every tank. A while back, i bought some parts from a dealer, and they sent me a 10% off coupon...so i took the plunge for a mopar cat back dual exhaust. After a weekend of driving around, i'm starting to see the difference. I was in the city for most of the weekend, so i did much more stop and go than normal and got better milage, probably around 19mpg city (vs. about 16 normally). Highway didn't change much, i'm still getting around 22-23, depending on how far over 70mph i'm going. i travel about 400 miles on an average week (one full tank); so in the long run i'll probably just break even. But doing the installs were a good way to kill a couple of afternoons. btw, sorry for the slight thread hijack.... |

My experience with lifting is: If it's a gasser you'll lose 2-4 mpg on a 3" lift. A deisel's fuel milage should remain almost uneffected at this hieght because the larger tires are not an issue because of all the low end torque. I still get between 22-31 with my CRD with the lift. My Mitsubishi Diesel Pickup with a 7" lift and 33's still returns the same milage it did when it was new. That's why I quit driving gassers. They get poor gas milage with lifts/big tires and I love lifts/big tires. |
