So CampNL was this past weekend... What a BLAST!!!

The trails were everything from "Gee this is a nice country road" to "What the hell have I gotten myself into!"... and everything in between...

The camping left something to be desired but that was mostly due to an air mattress that wouldn't hold air and camping in the last available spot under power lines! Not to mention we weren't there for the camping!

I posted my albums @ http://kjexpgroup.com/campnl-2006-shadow/ but here are some of my fav shots... (click on them for full size)

Day One - CampNL College - Anson Mountain

First day on the trail for this newly tricked out Grand...
Image

Daisy gets some flex, I get some air and the Big Red Machine just eats the trail for breakfast...
Image Image Image

Nice shot of a 2006 Tacoma that was with us... And then Daisy crawling some rawkz!
Image Image

The Inukshuk guiding us through our journey...
Unfortunately the Inukshuk didn't watch over our guide Roger... Exhaust ripped off and pinched the fuel line... quick trail fix and he was good to go!

Image Image

Roger's rig eating up the last climb...
First day ever on a trail for the Grand and the driver - Look at him go!
Image Image

Back to camp time...

Day 2 & 3 preview pics coming... They are all available (plus MANY more) via the album link above...

Like I said above you can skip these preview pics and just look at the thumbnails and full pics via http://kjexpgroup.com/campnl-2006-shadow/

Day 2 - Picard Lake and Weakest Link

Nice windy dirt road heading to the trail head
Image

Wrong trail... Nice but it lead to trail pinstriping GALORE! :( Bah! Nothing I can't buff out!
Image

Now we are at the right trail...
Image

Picard Lake Trail was more of a scenic drive so not many pics from there... It was Weakest Link that was the killer and by that I mean Liberty Killer!
We stayed out and let the big boys play in there... Fortunately I did ride in the back of the trail guides rig and there were a few serious pucker factor moments!

We stopped for lunch at Picard Lake and then headed home...

Image Image Image Image Image

One other noteworthy thing happened on Day 2... Some bonehead at Picard Lake thought it would be a great idea to go flying down the trail on his ATV after drinking too much... We found his helmet a 1/2 hour down the trail and found him several minutes later... He must have rolled the ATV and was beaten up pretty badly ( road rash, at least one tooth that he'll likely lose, a finger that was cut almost all the way through near the tip, possibly a fractured jaw and likely a concussion to boot)... With the help of Zeero and the trail guides the guy was taken care of and when we exited the trail there was an ambulance going by to pick him up. Nobody deserves to have something like that happen but stupid is as stupid does and the guy learned a lesson the hard way.

Day 3 was probably the best day because Concession Lake was long (20 KM or so) and it had technical aspects every time you took a corner! :D

Getting ready and starting the trail...
Image Image Image Image

Unfortunately due to some rain the night before and slippery roots the KJs needed to be winched up this obstacle... To their credit this was the only time help was needed (other than spotting) which impressed a few people!

Image Image Image Image

Barely around the corner and its time for another obstacle...

Image Image Image Image

Some nice puddles on this trail...!!!
Image Image Image

Oh my GOD! You could build a small town under there!!!!
Image Image Image Image

Some great flex shots of the other rigs...
Image Image Image Image

With no lift this climb gave me some trouble with my approach angle...
Image Image

A few more shots to round out the day...

Image Image Image Image

All in all I had a great weekend at Camp NL and I am looking forward to next year...
Let's get a few more Libbys out next year! :D

Cool stuff. Looks like a fun trail. Why is that blue libby being pulled up that hill? Or his he pulling someone out? I notice the cherokees front wheel is still on the ground where that libby had its front tire up in the air. Need to take that sway bar off or buy some JKS quick discos!!

That blue Liberty was stuck, it was being winched up the hill. I wasn't at that trail, but I beleive it was a very steep climb......no lockers = no go up hill with big rocks and roots.

I had the same issue... needed to be winched up...
Not a particularly steep hill... I did steeper climbs later in the trail... It was more due to some large roots that were very slick... if it had been a little dryer we would not have had a problem...

Yup! would have liked to see what my rig would look like there if it was disco'd... 8)
I'll let some folks try out the QD's and then might get a pair myself!

Fantastic photos of a great outing. Nice trail-manners to help out a fallen wheeler, regardless of type of vehicle or intelligence of decision (when) to run. Thanks so much for sharing those!
