Installed some Hella 500s

Went out and bought some Hella 500s and installed them today. I wired them to my parking lights so they can be turned on and off as long as the parking lights are on and they shut off when the parking lights are off (just in case I forget :wink:

). Here are some pics:

Nice install. That wiring setup is what I want too (lights come on with parking lights), but it would not pass inspection here in VA. :cry:

Looks great! I think I want to try an install like yours. Where do you pick up a switch and how do you install it cleanly in the dash? I know that that spot is close to where OEM lightbar switches go - but I don't have anything to go off.

Well first off, thanks for all the great comments! And second, to Gordo, the switch comes with the lights. All I did was run the wires that connect the relay to the switch through the firewall up through the inside fuse box and behind the plastic trim. Because I don't have a light bar, it is pretty easy because there is a nice big space behind the trim where the switch for it would normally be. To install the switch, just pop off the trim piece, drill a hole in front of where the space is for the lightbar, and put the switch in and connect the wires. It's actually a lot easier than it looks. I can get some pictures for you tonight after work on how I ran everything.

Oh and to dog_party, no inspections in Florida :twisted:

No taxes, no inspections...if you could, with a straight face, claim "no humitity," I might actually consider moving there.

That is a great looking KJ. I traded mine in for a Commander and now I will be picking up another KJ great vehicle. Nice job one of the best Kj's I have seen. White looks great on KJ but bad on Commander. My Commander is Black and my KJ was white.

did you just drill holes in the plastic ( top of bumper )? does the plastic hold the lights okay? just wondering if you had to put some sort of re inforcement to keep the lights from bending the plastic.. :?:

i know there are factory holes under there somewhere, but yours looks like they are a little closer in...

Well, before I drilled, I took off the grill, then popped off the little clips that hold the bumper facia on and peeked under it to make sure I would drill into steel. So yes, the lights are drilled right through the plastic into the steel. They don't move around when I drive either.

I wired mine the same, didnt like the idea of hitting the switch or something and not knowing it. :shock:
