Post subject:  pic request: stock wheels painted black

The title pretty much says it all. Does anyone have a picture of a JK with the stock 16" steel wheels painted black? Also, do body shops generally paint wheels? Im going to get some cragars or something similar eventually, but I wonder how this would look.

And here's a picture of my mom's '05 CRD, enjoy.

They looked pretty good. I think it was just spray paint, easy to touch up.

For the money you're going to pay a body shop to paint wheels, it might be cheaper to buy a new or used set of black steel wheels.

Look in the for sale by members section at the bottom of the page.

There was a guy that posted pics of his KJ not too long ago w/ black painted 16" rim on his all black Lib. I have toyed w/ idea a bit but I have to agree that the cost to have a body shop paint or powder coat them better off buying new rims. If you have a buddy that does paint/body, that could be you in.

**edit** found the Car Domain site for the KJ I was talking about above. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2499276 .

You'd be surprised on the PC'ing prices. Surprisingly I've found many places (not advertised Powder Coaters) who will throw your stuff in for cheap. We've done this many times w/ our quad parts...theres a place locally that builds buckeye parachute flying machines and their oven is big enough for most larger parts like wheels. We asked them if they wouldnt mind doing some stuff on the side and they didnt have a problem w/ it. I think we got a frame for an atv done for around $50 and a set of wheels done for $35. You just have to look around and ask...most people really wont mind doing it on the side...especially if it's a common color like black that most manufacturers are using on their products they sell. Hey...its worth a try. PC will Last FOREVER compared to paint...especially on rocks!

Woah, looks great Jeepaolic. Had you painted stuff before doing your wheels? If you could help point me in the right direction as to how to prep and paint that sort of thing I'd appreciate it a lot. I love DIY but haven't really painted anything ever.

EDIT

I found this guy's account. The prep seems thorough and the results good. Is this similar to what you did?

Nice link there Jaws, thanks. I am not sure I like the clear coat finish but that looks to be easy enough of a DIY project.
