Got Plow?

Finally received my plow, I ordered it 12/26. Now I just need it to snow 8+ inches so I can have some fun!

7' wide, 18'' tall, 114 lbs.

Thats pretty sweet looking!

Whats that black piece along the bottom made of? It looks like the part that goes into the hitch would snap off before it would do any damage to the frame, which is probably a good thing.

I know you wont be doing and HD plowing on main roads, but it always amazed me that those blade/trucks hold up like they do. When they hit big pot holes under the snow Idk why it doesnt just break that thing off. I guess it will if you hit a bump thats big enough.

The piece that goes in the receiver, including the diagonal piece and plate is solid steal. Very beefy, so it's never going to break.

The main cross member and the 2 uprights are 1/4 tubing. They are much weaker and connected by only 2 bolts. So I am hoping that something within that framework would break or bend before doing any damage to my Jeep.

The bottom of the blade is a 4'' by 1'' piece of rubber, so it has some pothole/curb protection.

I realize it is a light duty plow, and plan to use it as such. But I'm still looking forward to pushing some deep fresh snow with it.

Which model did you get? How much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking?
My back still hurts from shoveling out the end of the driveway from the city plows on Monday.

if you get some snow, please have someone snapping a few shots while you are pushing the snow around. Gotta see this in action! Really looks great!

Typically, the blade is not a solid wing. Rather it has hardened steel lower blades (maybe 8 or 10" tall and 1" thick) that are mounted on hinge backed with a heavy spring. When in normal operation, the lower blade pushes snow but when caught on a curb, pothole etc. it will "break away" and allow the entire plow to hop over the obstruction.

I've hit bridge joints that made the plow hop as high as the windsheild in the State's dump trucks before. It only takes one time to learn that lesson.

It is the Snowsport 180, and it's cost was $1000. A bit pricey, but well under the $3000 other plows cost. Plus it is much lighter and can be totally removed in under a minute. And mounts only with the front hitch, so it does not effect ground clearance like normal mounting systems.

I have appox. 300ft of drive that needs to be cleared, so it will be much faster than a snowblower.

Come on snow!

Did you have to install a front tow hitch for it to mount?

I did have to install a front receiver hitch, purchased separately for $150. Also my hitch is a special drop design (Landy Original) which is good because your receiver is supposed to be 16'' or less from the ground. That is an issue if you are lifted. I think a stock KJ would be OK though..

Does the plow angle to the side to allow the snow to 'run off'? Or do you have to turn the whole rig to one side?

If not, I would think all you would be doing is making a huge pile to push.

Looks great though.

It does not angle. They do offer a piece that would make it angle, used on their heavy duty blade.

From my experience, once the blade fills with snow it will form a mound in the middle and will start spilling out the sides. Therefore creating almost a V-Blade result. I have pushed a lot of snow with an old tractor, but never with a Jeep.

If I do have issues, I will have to buy the 'actuator' piece so I can better control the spillage.

I will definitely report back after I use it a few times.

That looks like a sweet plow! We have always had them on 4x4 quads but this looks like it would work really well. Does it manually lower using those pins on each side or does it have a different way I'm not seeing.

Yep, it's all manual. Looking at quad blades is actually what got me started. A guy has a lot of time to think while shoveling, and I wondered if I could use a quad set up and adapt it to my Jeep. I wanted to stay as light as possible. Started looking online and found the Snowsport. Seemed to fit the bill.

It has its limitations, but I think this 4000 lb diesel will push it, and a bunch of snow, quite well.
