First Mods Done

Well my first set of modifications are done on my KJ. I picked up a Maxx Grille Guard, SteelCraft Tail Light Covers, & KC Daylighters. My very near future modifications will most likely be 2.5" Lift, Flowmaster Super 44, Skid Row Skids, & Audio. I will also pick-up a trailer hitch w/ a d-ring or the MOPAR rear tow hook - one of the two. Also looking into picking up some lights to go where the stock fog lights go (mine didn't come with any). I'm also deciding what new tires I'll get for my KJ once it's lifted. Let me know what you think so far and about my future mods!

I like the taillight guards...I've thought about getting some.

Looks decent, but you're gonna need a front recovery point if you take it off road.

Yeah. I'm a big fan of the Grille Guard, but I do need some front recovery points... Is there anyway to have both or do I pretty much need an ARB or something?

if the brush guard bolts to the tow hook holes like I think it does, then no, not really. Unless it's wide enough at the mounting points to accommodate a front hitch?

It was a pain in the butt getting the dang Grille Guard on; I can't imagine putting the tow hooks on in addition, but it might be worth a second look... I'll ask my friend to take a look at it (he knows much more about vehicles than I do and helped with the install) and I'll see if it's possible to mount some sort of front recovery. I don't plan on doing really serious off roading, but that being said I've already had the KJ stuck down to the frame in the mud once already. It's not very funny digging down to the frame with a military issue folding shovel in February after dark! :lol:

it doesnt really matter IMO if your going to do light off roading or hardcore off-roading you need froont and rear recovery points, plus its nice to have them when you see someone stuck in the ditch in the winter so you can pull them out and be cool like cdiekhens

Look up Jeep Dawg, he has a brush guard and tow hooks. He should be able to give you some suggestions.

BTW, the KJ looks great!

Looking good man.
Take it step by step and it will all get done one way or another.
When you lift it, I would get a set of Moab rims. Then your KJ will look FREAKING SWEET!

OH YEA,
I do have a bull bar that uses the SAME mounting holes as the brush guard does and I also have my front tow hooks mounted as well.
It took some time to figure out but I did it when everyone else said it can't be done.

It is not easy to set up a tow strap. It takes a few mins. What I do just before I hit the trails with fellow N-E KJers I set up my straps. I thread it though the tow hooks and wrap it around my bull bar. If I ever need to get pulled or to pull some one out, I am already set up and no wasting time.
It is not a P.I.T.A, after a few times of doing it, you will get the hang and well worth it.

Yes, Recovery points are very important to have.. OFF-Roading or not... You will use them eventually... AND people will think you're COOL, when you pull them out of the mud.

Nice KJ by the way.... Great color!, Paint your rims... :wink:

I also just took a look at where the Grille Guard mounts... And I have some dumb questions. What if the tow hook (not necessarily the MOPAR hook) was only mounted on the inner of the two bolts that are attached to the plate that sits on the top of the frame that the Grille Guard actually mounts to? Would one bolt do the trick, or am I asking for trouble? If I can only use one hook, what about the hole on the frame in the front center? If I could somehow get a plate up in the frame with a bolt coming down out of that one hole, would that work for a hook in the center?

you need at least 2 bolts holding the hook and if they are not the OE supplied bolt and hook then they need to mounted with grade 8 bolts
I dont think a hook in the center is a good idea will probably bend that part of the unibody

I'll have to keep thinking because the way my Grille Guard is mounted is different than that of Jeep Dawg's Bull Bar. I highly doubt the MOPAR Tow Hook would work.

look around for TONYCRD he has both guard and hooks. He modified the plate a lil bit and it looked real easy to do.

Hizah! Good find. I guess all he really did was weld the brush guard plates onto the hitch itself, right? I'm not sure if mine will work the same or not... Now I just have to talk my friend into taking off my front bumper! :lol:
