Trimmed bumper makes a world of difference!

As some of you have seen, I recently sank my KJ in mud and messed stuff up. Most everything is back to normal now though. I'm still working on getting all the mud out. Today I realized I had about 10lbs of dry mud stuck in my front air dam. Started chiseling it out, then realized that the air dam itself looked bad. So I cut it off!

I think it looks much better now. What do you guys think?

Nice. Tempted to do something like this to my kk. Yesterday I was scared off from completing one if my local trails for fear of ripping off my bumpers. So this may be an economical solution.

I cut it with a box cutter/utility knife. The bumper slices like butter. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it at first, because I didn't know how I would reattach the wheel well liner. Turns out that Jeep wants us to cut the bumper! There an extra, used hole exactly at the point where I cut the liner. I simply drilled a hole in the liner and reused the plastic clip.

I'll take a picture of what I'm describing for people thinking about doing this.

Now all you have to do is lift it! It looks much better than stock.

I just spent all my lift money repairing it. Over $1500 in repairs after I sunk it. Hopefully this fall I can put an OME lift on.

Looks good! I was wondering...doesn't that air dam serve a purpose like helping cool down your engine while driving? I know on most cars you need those air dams or you'll start overheating much quicker. I owned 2 camaros and both had those air dams; mechanics all told me they're for helping keep your engine cooler while driving. Please correct me if I'm wrong when it comes to the Liberty.

Well, my jeep did have a bad overheating problem. Then I washed a couple pounds of mud out of the radiator and now my needle doesn't move. I live in Florida so it's hot everyday too. It might do something on some cars, but it seems fine on the Jeep.

you've cut the front, thats the easy one but do you have the B***s to cut the rear one :ROTFL:

As far as cooling think how many have cut their bumpers years ago plus the ones who have ARBs and no cooling issues.

I'm not sure how much I like the rear cut. I've got a hitch on there that will just be totally uncovered. I decided that if the front looked terrible, I'd get an ARB. I wish I would have done this sooner though. My driver side turn signal is already cracked and the plastic clip on both sides by the signal is broken from coming down on the bumper.

KK hitches work great for that have 3 to 4 inches more clearance under the hitch/bumper that way plus no where for the mud to gather :wink:

I have a hitch and a trimmed rear bumper. Doesn't hang out there too much...

I really like that profile tire on the Duratrac. It looks like it's about 1mm shorter than the 245/75R16. It's a little narrower though, so I'm curious if you have a lift and if you had to do any wheel-well trimming in the front to make them fit at full lock.
