These photos show completion of the first step, which includes the following: :juggle:
.. Green Diesel hot tune
.. Sun Coast torque converter with Transgo kit
.. Front hitch
.. Warn RockCrawler (red) 9000 winch (50 lbs) on receiver mount (photo not included, will post later)
.. Major trimming of all wheel wells including removal of plastic well liners and pounding down of everything that could be pounded
.. Front wells cut back at rear of wheel wells (see photos) - these gaping holes will be capped with steel sheet (use caution as there are wire bundles behind the covers on both sides)
.. Front plastic fenders trimmed up to curve line (see photo), and front bumper plastic trimmed, with lower air dam removed
.. Rear plastic fenders trimmed about half-way up, rear doors trimmed a little at rear
.. All wheel wells painted flat back with undercoat and bed-liner paint
.. Removed window washer reservoir (I plan to trim it up and find another location somewhere under the hood)
.. 33x10.5x15 BFG KM2 tires on Craga 15x7 Streetlock steel wheels

The result so far, as you can see, look pretty good. There is NO LIFT on my KJ, but the tires clear by a couple of inches even at full turn, and there is 4 to 6 inches of vertical up-travel before they would rub. I do not know whether the wheels would rub under full articulation. Frankly, I don't care because next week the KJ will be lifted and so I figure if the tires clear reasonably well now then I will have no problems when lifted.

I made a costly mistake :banghead: (probably more mistakes than I know yet actually) in getting 4.5" backspace on the 15" wheels. Even with some minor grinding on the front brake caliper castings the wheels would not clear, so I installed 7/32 spacers (they just slip in between, no bolts). However, between the crappy out-of-roundness of the Cragar streetlock wheels and the additional out-of-roundness caused by the spacers, I have very poor wheel balance and will be changing out the wheels for the plain D-window Cragar soft 8's in 15x7 with 4" backspacing. Based on my experience I suggest anyone looking to go with the 15" steel wheels stay on the small side of 4" backspacing (i.e., 3.75 or 4), since the 4.5 did not work at all for me.

I will post again in a week or so after the additional mods are installed:
.. Supersliders
.. 4" JBA lift with adjust-a-strut front suspension
.. Steel front diff with 4.56 gearing and electric lockers front and rear
.. JE Reel front CV shafts
.. Bilstein shocks front and rear
.. Full skid protection underneath
.. getting those holes at the back of the front wheel wells capped
.. Safari snorkel

I ended up cutting that whole 90* piece in #5 out, clear to the floorboard, the "framerail" and the rocker and then plated that because the actual floorpan itself is so thin there and then just capped the end of the rocker panel.

I don't know what wires those are on yours, my '02 didn't have any wiring at anywhere close to that area

Holy smoke

CRD's have a little less room in the engine bay, Here's what I did to relocate the washer reservoir

I would love to be able to fit 33x10.5x15's under the KJ. Thats my goal!

But the look of the KJ is awesome! Love it!

Thanks for all the tips on replacing the washer bottle. I am hoping to cut down the OEM bottle and find a place where it will fit. I want to try to keep the OEM pump. I thinking I could maybe cut the neck off the OEM bottle and maybe even slice the bottle in half vertically. We'll see.

Got the wiring in place, front and back, for quick connects for winch (see photos). The winch only fits in the rear receiver with the door open because of the spare, so I might get a receiver extension. BTW, the rear window does open (barely) even with the 33 inch spare.

Also installed the supersliders (see last photo). Goes into the shop on Monday for the suspension work.

The following photos also include a close up of the rear door so you can see the trimming I did on the top of the curve in order to maximize the height in the rear wheel well.

Do you think you would have been able to fit 33/12.5s if you went with 3.75 on the backspace?

I used the same pump from my washer bottle. Just made new holes in the bottle I purchased from oreilys.

Still in the shop, but getting close. Here are some pics looking up the skirt of the Liberty, showing rear and front suspensions.

Still left to do - skid plates, mount ARB compressor and connect to front & rear lockers, weld up the gapping holes I cut in the rear of the front wheel wells to make the 33's fit, then off for a front end alignment.

Post subject:  Re: Building my 2005 CRD, 4" JBA lift, 33" KM2, 4.56 gearing

got rid of the fuzzy image and edited so pics show instead of just link. Thanks for advice.

Here are a couple more images with Liberty on the ground showing initial lift (not settled at all yet - fresh off the lift). Will be adjusting the front struts to raise the front up a bit since it is about 2 inches lower than the back. I'm also hoping the back will settle down a little. I can't measure distance to bottom of fenders since fenders have both been trimmed, but back is about 27-1/4 from center of wheel to fender fold (fold is an inch or so above existing bottom of fender, or a couple of inches above bottom of stock fender). Front is about 25-1/4 from center of wheel to fender fold, which is where I cut the stock fender and which is now the new bottom of the fender. Is that confusing or what? You can download the following pdf file if you want to see exactly where I measured.

Looks great!

I liked your old wheels better of course.

Have you measured up and down travel up front yet? And how about a picture of the CV axle, You're the first CRD with 4" lift that I have seen on here, so I am curious how bad the angle looks.

The last photo a couple of posts up (previous) shows the CV axle, although the Liberty is on a lift and the tires are freely dangling down. The SIFS differential is apparently about 3 inches narrower than the stock differential, so that helps a bit on reducing the angle. Next time it's on the ground I'll take a photo of the CV's. I am also anxious to see flex when completed.

Just had to go out to the garage and check mine (with 30,000 miles on this lift) against your new measurements
mines just a smidge over 26 3/4 front and rear to where you measured
so mines staying pretty good  of course not a CRD

overall its getting there, you've done a lot of work to it in a short time thats for sure :JEEPIN:
