Post subject:  XJ help

So i'm looking at an XJ 4x4 to add to the family but needing some help on what it is i really need to watchout for when choosing. Found a 98 with 90k. Thinking it might be just what i'm looking for. Stock of course! But what are the known problems of the XJ and things i should direct my time into when going to look at them?

98 w/ 90K..... good choice.

Not the end of the world but if it has ABS, it almost definately has a D35 rear. If the price is rght, not a big deal though.

Really not a whole lot to watch out for as long as it all seems to be in good shape and runs well. Do the normal check out you would give any vehicle: kick the tires & look for abnormal wear, check the fluids, listen for exhaust leaks, (common on earlier models, not sure on 98's, iirc they came w/ upgraded exhaust manifolds but not + if that was a mid-year deal or not -still not a deal breaker imo) Drive and listen, should be plenty of power, no trans slipping, a/c works?, check transfer case operation.

Good luck!
