One thing to watch for is if you have directional treads. You'll have to have tires remounted if you're going to do crosses. I'm buying five directional snows that I plan on rotating very often, and it will require two being remounted every time. My tire shop will think I'm nuts if they don't already.

I just move front to back on the same side. no spare in the rotation.

I had not really thought it through, but I like the argument that if you trash a tire, then you have to buy a new one anyway so now your using the spare plus the new one with the worn tire from that axle becoming the new spare.

Of course the downside is if you don't trash a tire you've got a almost new 2-3 year old tire when you buy your next set.
