What ply of tire are you running?

Running LT's with a E rating, yes the mileage went down, don't care, the ride is stiffer on pavement again I don't care, the ride when on secondary roads is great comparing to the P tires, don't feel every little rock that's out there. Yes they are heavy.

I have P tires. I use them mostly on the road as a DD and for wheeling in the Florida sand in the forests and beaches. They serve me quite well and I don't have to worry much about rocks puncturing the sidewalls. (rocks in Northeast Florida? :-)r

I do notice there is quite a bit of sway on the road that heavier rated tires would help with and I am about to take a trip to Alaska and parts in between. Thicker sidewalls would definitely help in the rocky Western states and I think less sway would be a real plus. My tires only have 6K miles on them so I guess I'm stuck with them for awhile. :banghead:

My next set will definitely be LT tires. This is what is recommended, no required, in the books I have read on 4wheelin. Some of the instructors and guides that take people out on Western trail rides will not take someone with P rated tires. They recount time after time of having to change flats on P's that have been punctured on rocks.

Just curious: You say you run mud in those General A/T's, yet I find the even Mt/R's to be less than ideal in mud. Yet they are seriously better than A/T's. I run mud with them. Are they the best tire I've used in the mud? No way. I've run MTs of course and those made a noticeable difference to me in the mud. But in my opinion, mud is the only place where a MT tire shines. The ATs do OK for the mud...but they excel in the snow/ice, and on pavement as well. So the ATs are the best all-around tire and I'm settling for good in all areas instead of great in one area.

10 ply here, but i would have bought them no matter if they were c, d, or e. I purchased them mainly due to the aggressive tread design, the load range was just a plus for me. Did i lose a mpg or two? yes. Are the heavier than what they replaced? yes. Do I regret buying them? NO

I have used E,C, and P rated tires on my CRD. The E's killed my mileage, rode like bricks, and the tread wore out long before the sidewall would've gotten punctured. I have also seen P tires rated higher than C's (same brand and size). Seems like more large size P rated tires are built for trucks now and are better engineered than before. Sidewall is my only concern that took me back to C rated tires. I won't put another set of E's on a Liberty. I imagine most people went with E's because that is what was offered in the size/brand they wanted. Choosing C limits your choices because they sell more E tires in the size range we want. That's my guess anyway...

I run triple ply BFG TAKO's load range d. They work VERY well in hauling max capacity, handling offroad rocks jabbing at them, and even mall crawling! Honestly Ill be getting e rated BFG TAKO's unless I want something more aggressive when mine are bald. Honestly I LOVE my tires as they have never let me down and the d range made the jeep ride alot better then the SRAs and kumho trash I had before. :JEEPIN:
