This tire stuff really makes my head hurt. I tried reading charts and stuff, but it is greek to me. I have an 06 sport.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "fit". Some off roaders figure a tire fits as long as the tread doesn't peel off on the fender or the fenders themselves don't shred off. Other guys don't like even a bit of rubbing. On a stock KJ the tires you mentioned may have minor rubbing at full flex or lock, but even then it depends on what brand tire you choose. As mentioned in other threads recently, not all tires are created equal, size-wize.

Ok, sorry, no rubbing... but what you mention is also acceptable. Yeah, I have seen the varying size mentioned in other threads. Is there a topic, that I might have missed, that really explains in newbi terms take tire spec on the net (tirerack) and be able to determine if it will fit ones rig. For me, I am still stock and won't be lifting soon. Use all my yearly jeep money.

In the same vain, I have noticed wheelspacers. A device to push the tire out, like at this site; http://www.spidertrax.com/s.nl/it.A/id. ... ategory=18

Can these be used to take care of the slight rubbing problem?

235/70 16
was the stock size that came on our '03 limited
we now run a 225/75 16
as far as what wii and wont rub what will and wont fit i would pick a tire that you want and look at the sizes
look at not just hight but also section width and tread width ,not all tire brands will have both section and tread width

and rember to gain 1" of ground clerance at the "bell" you need 2" of tire
IMO any thing less than 1" is meaning less
so your current tire is about 29.5" tall you need a 31.5" tall tire to make a real differance
even lifted a tire that tall will still rub

I don't know if the description is mentioned anyplace, but here it is for anybody else that reads this discussion:

Tire Size is XXX/YYRZZ

The XXX is the width of the tire in mm. You basically have 225, 235, 245, 255, and 265 to pick from. Wide = traction, stability, narrow = better gas mileage, less noise.

The YY is the "aspect ratio" or the percentage of the width that the height of the tire is. For the liberty, this will be a 65, 70, or 75, more likely than not.

The ZZ is just the rim size, which is either 16 or 17.

So if you look at a tire size, say for example the 235/70R16 that is an available stock size:

235*70% = 164.5mm = 6.4 inches
so take the 16" rim and add 6.4 inches on either side to get 28.8", which is the diameter of that tire.

Or just cheat and read it in a table or use the tire size calculator :-)

If you want a tire that will fit a stock KJ, stick to tires under 29.5" in diameter (the 245/70R16, 235/70R16, and 225/75R16 are all good, most people go with the 245/70R16)

The 235/75R16 is 29.9inches, which is pretty big for the wheel well. You will most likely rub a bit on it if you don't want to trim. I suggest going with a 235/70 or a 245/70 instead.
