Destination AT v. Grabber AT2

I am considering buying some A/T tires for daily driving. 95% street use. What are peoples opinions on the Destinations and Grabbers. Offroad capability is not really a factor for me since I will switch to MT/R's when wheeling. So any info on road noise, tread wear, and handling would be very helpful.

I have Destination A/Ts in 245/70 on my '05 Renegade and have been very pleased so far. I have about 10K miles on them. They handle much better than the stock Goodyears, are better in wet/slick conditions, and don't produce any more noise at highway speed. I haven't noticed any real decrease in gas mileage even with the larger size (20MPG over last two tanks, manual calc).

Mine are close to 100% on-road with no issues, but they handled Camp Jeep last year with no problems either.

I paid about $600 for five tires (replaced spare as well) with mounting, lifetime balance/rotate, road hazard, etc.

I have the Firestone and I love em so far. They do great in all types of terrain. I had them on for about 3,500 miles. I am thinking about going for the grabber next. They have a more aggressive tread. Can't go wrong with either tire.

The generals are kinda loud around 35-45mph. They are also louder than stock at Hw speeds, but not that bad. If its going to be onroad alot, then i wouldnt get the generals. They seem to be alittle more aggressive than the firestones.

It's a Jeep. It's suppose to be loud. That what you get with an A/T tire. Turn up your stereo to drain out the noise. :lol:

Destination ATs (245 70s) on for about 15000 doing great, so much different than stock, quiet, smooth ride Had them in snow, ice, hard rain and they handle all really good, dont think you can go wrong with them

I've had the Generals for about 8000 miles now . . . and yeah they do have a noise band, but really quiet down after you clear 45mph. They look awesome though, not quite as good as a Mud Tire, but definitely FAR better than stock and other street tires. I used to run Michelin SUV All-Terrains which are were rated to be the best wet traction tires I could get at the time because I pulled a boat around a lot. The Generals drive just as well and also have very good wet traction, relative to other tires on a Jeep Liberty, she doesn't stop too quickly no matter what's on her feet.

The Generals have passenger and E rated versions, I have the passenger rated version because I didn't want the additional weight of the E tires . . . my lift, armor, rims, etc. have already hurt my gas mileage enough.

But, Overall I LOVE these tires and haven't sacrificed much if ANY wet traction but have gained MUCH nicer looking tires! Everyone that has ridden with me has commented how quiet these tires actually are, becuase they LOOK like they should be much louder!

I vote for the Generals. Mine came in handy pulling my KJ up steep gravel roads in Nashville, IN last weekend. For the money, I don't think you can find a better all-around tire for any Jeep vehicle -- as long as you're not into extreme rock crawling and mud bogs. This isn't that kind of tire. I've had mine in the mud though, and I was impressed with the traction and how quickly they clean themselves so you can quickly go from mud to pavement with minimal slip. I upsized from 215/75R16 stock to 245/70R16, and the difference is incredible. My Liberty feels more solidly planted on the road, which I noticed instantly. The extra 1/2" of height is nice too.

I ahve the generals as well. Only noise i really notice is righ taround 35 but doesnt bother me at all. Great tire for the price.

Go with the Firestones. I have almost 30K miles on 'em and they are like a dream. I can't spin them in the rain unless you are going up hill and you punch the gas pedal to the floor. And I rarely need the 4WD to deal with snow in the winter. Great tire, great price, and great milage (mine look like they might last for 70-75K miles).

But that is my 2 cents...

I would too. If you do not go offroad that much then I must say the Destinations are for you. They are fair offroad and seem to be good on. :wink:
