Alright....first, thanks for checking this out. Second...I have a freedom edition that sits on 17" stockers. The tires on the vehicle when I bought it at 245/70/17's. The vehicle has a 2" lift from factory, and I want to down size to a 15 or 16" rim for offroading. Get something with a bit more meat on them.

I am thinking a set of 245/75/16's in the MTR's on a set of Moab rims. A lot of guys run them...I just dont want any rubbing as I get some now.

Being that I am dropping down in over all rim dimension I would assume I could get away with the 75 series....or would you recommend I try and get something like a 245/70/16 or a 245/75/15?

Go with 15s, the price difference is astronomical. There are only certain 15" wheels that will fit, Rock Crawlers being one.

There are a lot more choices for 16x8 rims and tires. For aggresive look you can pick up Rubicon Moab wheel takeoffs (but they require lift to fit and not rub too badly).

Or, you can pick up 16" rims (match the mount pattern and backspacing) and go with any number of choices:

1. Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos. Good for on- and off-road uses.

2. BF Goodrich TA KO. They seem to be just as popular as the Revo's

3. Goodyear MT/R. Super-strong sidewall. Pretty darn near indestructible. I tore a gash in one and it's still fine Will need to replace them all soon anyway, getting low on thread.

I am going to be keeping the stock wheels and tires and using these for wheeling and whenever I feel like it. lol

I want to get some tires that will have plenty of tread for mudd, water, and anything I choose to throw at it.

I was thinking those black steel wheels in 15's with something like the MTR or something of the same sort.

Black Steelies would look great on your rig (cheap too if you look at Cragar soft 8s). Besides, everybody is running the Moabs and MTRs. A 15" tire will also give you a better footprint when you air down offroad. I run BFG MTs. Just over $105/tire at Sam's as opposed to $172/tire at Sam's. One tip....stay around 4.5 to 5 " of backspacing.

JK you know that

if you go with a 15" rim and a 30" tire it will look great IMO but if the back spacing is wrong they will rub realy bad in the rear not to bad at all up front

nolakj has a BFG 30X9.5r15 on a 15X8 rim with 3.75" back spacing and he has the rustys spring lift and the rears rub like crazy at full stuff
this tire is almost the exact same size as the ones I have on mine stock + a clevis lift (not needed) they are only .7" wider and .3" taller
and I have the stock rims

just that his looks way cooler than mine and has waaaaaaaaaaay more flex and clearance

245/75R16 and 245/70R17 are almost exactly the same outside diameter, so if you got rubbing before, you'll still have it.

Depending on where the rubbing is occuring, you may be able to fix it by trimming (pounding down the pinch weld, trimming the fender lining) or by changing the backspacing of the wheels (getting new wheels).

Rub like crazy.....That's like saying Hannibal Lechter was just a little odd. They rub baaaaad. Luckily I didn't lose any peices and now my brand new tires look like they have spent alot more time on the trail than they actually have.
Also **Correction**my rims have 4.25" of backspacing, which, despite the rubbing, makes it look supa-bad.

Yeah, 15" tires don't come in metric sizes (245/70), try a 30"x9.5"x15".

cool....found some in both.

thoughts on those choices?

if I went with the rims listed in a 16x8 5"bs would the tire size of 255/70/16 work?

The only tire that I can find in the 245/70/16 is the general grabber...and for $75 each I might go with them!

Sure. The Grabbers should work fine. ATs have a relatively mild mannered treat pattern that is less likely to rub than the Mudders. Good call on the soft 8s
