tires

i got the new tire today, but had to go with the yokohama a/t, and might i say they look A LOT more aggressive than my sport kings, so i think i may end up replacing all 4 eventually. it was a $150 for the mount and whatever they do at discount tire, other than they broke one of the studs because i guess it cross-threaded. but i posted this because i notice if i turn the wheel all the way to the left and its turned in, it rubs ... and i cant trim it anymore because itll be the body .... so is this ok, or is there somethin i can do? they are 245/70/16

beat the crap out of the pinch weld?
the only other thing i can think of is to remove the inner wheel well and rhino line.

Aight wait, you are driving around with 1 new tire? Can you better describe where its rubbing? Back of the fender wheel, front, fog light door, pinch weld? Maybe take some pics?

If you do happen to be driving around with one tire that bigger, please do not put it in 4wd!! :shock:

If its not rubbing bad and its on something plastic, it will be ok. My tires rub on the pinch weld and around the fog light door and im not going to worry about it at all. :wink:

same here Jeepjeepster,
I have 235/75/16 BFG AT/KO tires and I get some rubbing at times. after a while the wheel well plastic will shave its self down and it wont be a problem any more.

and that tire thing you have, are you driving with 1 tire that is different then all the others?
is the size the same at least?

jeep dawg yes, its the same size and everything .... i most likeley will replace the last 3 with every paycheck ... i need to atleast get the spare replaced since that one has been a goner for the last 3 weeks (not repairable), so when i get that one replaced i will switch it out with the front passenger side? and then hit the back ones after that.
the rubbing is hitting on the back of the fender on the corner ....
what is a pinch weld?

The pinch weld is at the back middle of the front wheel well. It is a vertical strip that runs part way up the wheel well and is covered with the plastic of the inner wheel well cover. The metal part benneth the plastic is where the body panels come together and are spot welded.

I wonder why they would be rubbing though if they are stock replacement of the same size. Did you take the tire shops word for it or are you actually looking at what is printed on the tire?

I don't remember a 245/70 being a stock replacement tire, I have seen 235/70 and 215, 225/75s. With the 245 he may be rubbing on the swaybar at full lock also.

i now have 2 bran new tires on the front, and am working on getting the last 2 for the rear. i got my shocks and struts replaced today as well ... since they were complete junk...

What brand did you replace the front shocks with? Does the other new tire rub in the same place the other does? I notice with my tires, one side of my jeep is higher. My left front tires rubs alittle more than my right front tire. Kinda crazy I thought.

235/70 is the largest stock tire.

chances are that her new tirs is bigger then what she had on her rim.
I know with my 225/75/16 BFg's I get some rubbing in the back and that is if I have alot of weight in the jeep making a turn on a slight hil. but thats all.

its possiable her tire is too big for the back.

I will chime in here.... your tires may also be rubbing on the airdam...when I went to 245's even with my lift, I had to trim the airdam and the liner and still at full lock and certain angles I get some rubbing. 245 are a bit taller and wider than stock and will rub a bit.

Every vehicle is different, but I have 245/70R16 on my 2003 Sport, and I experience no problems other than barely noticeable rubbing in the front fender well when the steering wheel's maxed out in either direction. It's caused no damage to tire or Jeep after three months, and it doesn't even occur in 99.9% of my driving. If you want a bigger tire for an unlifted KJ, I don't think you can go larger than 245/70R16 without problems.

Here's what my Liberty looks like with its upsized tires. I like the way the wheel well is more filled out.
