Swamper TSLs

opinions from those who actually have these tires please. daily commute is around 100 highway miles each day. ...thinkin ahead to when my revos wear out. again, first hand experience opinions please.

Extremely heavy tires. Very stiff sidewalls. Great when aired down very low offroad.

thanx aaron, any opinions on highway use? grip on dry, wet, snowy/icy roads? tread life? thanx

I would assume you are talking the radial version... they will have slightly better road manners and lower noise levels; but they are still not a street tire for a 100 mile commute. Tread wear is much quicker than most other tires. Noise level will be high and ride quality will be low due to stiffer sidewalls and tread pattern.

The bias ply will flat spot on cool days and will not balance well. I run swamper TSL/SX on my trail rig and they are exceptional off road. I have run several sets and even ran Goodyear MTRs at one point; still end up back with swampers for real off road use. But I can tell every time I drive to a trail that the tread has worn. I wouldn't expect more than 20K out of the bias ply and maybe 30K max from the radial. Goodyear MTR are a great compromise between street and off road use.

There are so many variations of the swampers. I have heard some better street qualities and life from the SSRs and Truxus; Most of them have too open of a tread pattern to work very well in wet snow/icy conditions.

I have a set of off brand ATs on my Cherokee for daily driving. They do okay in rain. They do okay in the snow as well. I only used the TSL SSRs for a off road trip. But it was drizzling that morning and the roads were wet. Driving like I normally do, I tried to accelerate from a stop around a corner. I could barely even make it off the line. Had to baby into the throttle. And the SSR is supposed to be the best road version of the TSL. From that short experience with the tires on the road (about 50 miles from the offroad park) I can tell you they are deffinately loud, rough, and not my choice for daily tires. I cant even imagine them on the ice. Also, this was at only 25psi, which is what I run my normal daily tires at also. If I had them at 35psi, I would probably still be sitting at that light.

If you want decent road manners, get an AT. Also, get a tire that has lots of sipes if you want snow/ice traction.
