Trying a new tire, the Finnish Nokian Vatiiva 245/70s on the rig. Tread looks a lot like the Revo and has the same warranty, wear, traction and load ratings. Price was about $50 less than Revos quoted locally. Was recommended by a transplant from Vermont who said they are extremely popular in that area. So far they seem to be a nice tire, lots of traction, corner and run great in the rain, nice and quiet in town or on the highway. Don't seem to have much more rolling resistance that the stockers, haven't noticed any mileage change yet.

Lots of folks up here have been running those and now they won't buy anything else. Their winter tires are great, especially on ice. You probably will be happy with them. I'm looking at a set for my next tires...

Eddo: Grismer carries them locally.

They are not widely available, it seems, but those that try them seem very loyal to them

These are the winter Nokian tires I was talking about. They are called Nokian Hakkapeliitta Light Truck SUV Winter. I just ordered a set of 5 (245/70 R16) and they will be in next week. I can hardly wait. :D

They are from Finland I think. I have no idea what it means, but it better not be "almost as good as Wrangler SR/As".

Just came back from hunting in the first snow of the year on the Vatiivas. 12 to 14 inches on the ground on the trails. Worked great in the snow, not to bad in the mud underneath. Worked great on the packed/plowed snow. Worked great in the rain we've had, about 2 inches a day. Vatiiva is Finnish for Journey, says so on the tire.

Cool. My Jeep is in the tire shop right now getting the Hakkapeliittas put on. I decided to go with studs because we are getting a REAL winter this year by the looks of it. It started snowing about three weeks ago and we've had almost three feet since. It's a bit of a blizzard out there right now...all I can say is...YAY! :D I've been out snowshoeing several times and loving the powder.....Glad you are liking your Vatiivas. How are they on icy spots? I think they are a good looking tire too...Enjoy your winter "Journey." :)

Hmmm. Best meaning I can find for the word Hakkapeliitta: "Let it snow" I just learned they have been making these tires since 1936. Anyhow, I got them on and they work unbelievably well! Our streets and roads up here are snow-packed, ice covered, hastily plowed, and in general quite challenging. But my new tires grab good and hold on :D

FSJ looks like about as much fun as GP, amazing that these towns don't really ever bother plowing the streets.
