I'm thinking on buying my dad some used tires (for offroad use only) and I'd like them to be as aggressive as possible, but small. The 29x10.5 TSL SX would be my first choice. The plan would be to run a TJ rim in the 15x8 variety with 5.25 backspacing. I figure that should give me the best chance of using 10.5" wide rubber. Would it still be way too broad of a tire? A little rubbing at the turning extremes should be tolerable. I see the TSL comes in a 29x8.5 inch size, but I was hoping for something a bit wider. I doubt I can convince him to lift it at all, at least not until the warranty expires.

The TJ rims I've heard that people tried won't fit over the disc brakes. The Soft 8, D hole wheels from RockCrawler, Unique, Cragar, etc. seem to fit though.

Hmmm, hadn't thought of that. Guess I'll need to find a local TJ owner and borrow a rim. I've got some 15x8" black steelies on my 86 MJ so (when it warms up) I can use them to compare. Thanks!
