Anyone runningtrxus, interco or mickey thompson (Richard cepek) brands. I see they can be cheaper than MTR's and BFG AT KOs. if so any reviews on them. I mainly drive on the road. Down here, off roading is in the sand for the most part but i hope to travel to some rocky areas whenever i get off work for more than 8 hours

2008 Patriot - Fuel Saver

Marty (Rock Lizard) will tell you that he likes Interco Trxus M/T Radials; I know they are grippy for rocks and great in the mud (like any other Swamper) and are supposed to be exceptional on wet pavement because of all that siping. I've always wanted to get them, and I might go for their 235/85R16 size if I feel like trimming up my flares. Then again, Interco's LTB is one HD tire (it's a bias ply) and is really cheap, $116 for a tire that's 31x10.3" on a 16" rim. I'd definitely go for that tire if I get seperate steel rims and tires just for the trail. The TSL radials come in a 31x9.5R15LT size that an Arizona LOST member runs, Calvin56. His rig looks very nice with his rim and tire choice. I've heard on other forums that all these tires are very grippy when aired down and self-clean amazingly, but the usual complaints are noise and low tread wear, and sometimes balance issues. You can't expect such aggressive, grippy tires to be quiet and wear well on the street, which is why I want to get seperate rims and get some Swampers for offroad use Then I'd run some cheap A/Ts on my stock rims for daily driving. This seems the most economically to me, since you save a lot of gas money and tires mileage. For how often I offroad, I bet I could run the same set of Swampers offroad only for 2 or 3 years before having to get new ones, if I run some other tire on diff. rims for daily driving. 4wheelparts.com can ship 4 black steel Pro Comp Rockcrawler rims with 4 31" LTBs on them to your door for $900, or if you have a store locally it's $750. That's no deal of the century...but I'm saving!
I've heard a lot of different things about Mickey Thompson tires. From the get go, some of their tires are directional, which means you can't rotate them as often and you should carry two different spare tires. I know someone who used to run MTX Radials and he couldn't quit complaining when they wore out at 20,000 miles. I'm assuming he rotated and balanced them since he was whining so badly. He loved their performance, though. They are a true all-terrain tire that looks great. I've heard good things about the MTZ and Baja Claw Radials, similar to comments about Swampers. But I've heard the Claw Radials don't self-clean as well as you'd expect them too. I've always wondered about the Baja Belted HP

It's a very unique tread pattern and comes in a size thats called 31x7.5-15 but has an OD of 31" and a sidewall width of 9.4". I've never seen a single review online for them. It's funny that you mentioned Dic k Cepek tires. The filter on the forum here blocks out that first part of the name. I know a couple dudes locally that run the Radial FC-IIs religiously on their trucks. They say it cleans great in mud and otherwise is a true all-terrain. I've never seen it offroad myself, though.
For sand, I think you want a wide tire.

The Cepek Fun Countrys were derived from an exceptional tire used by off roaders back in the 70's, the Armstrong Norseman which is pretty close in design to the Goodyear Suburbanites that came stock on my '68 CJ5 with V-6.
