What are good tires for 17" Freedom wheels?

Ok Help.....

I like Moabs with MTR's, but I also like the Freedom Edition wheels I have. The problem is, they dont make MTRs for 17inchers. So, that being said, what is a good tire for this truck? I have Rusty's lift, and I really want the tires to be wider and meatier and meaner than stock to give it that awesome stance.

Is this possible? What about spacers? (I know next to nothing about those)

They make MT/R's in 265/70R17's which is the same size as the 265/75R16's,the same size I'm running :idea:

With a lift on those 17s, you got a lot of choices, it is us with 17"s and no lift who's gotta worry about what tires to get when it's time to replace the goodyear wrangler hps..

I like the tires that are on it ok, good road ride and ok off road, I just want something thicker and meatier, more tread.

Id also like to get them wider on the vehicle...ie sides of tire outside frame of the vehicle. are spacers the only way to do that, or do I need a wider wheel?

not the pro on tires but I assume anything wider than 245/65 on those rims might get you some rubbing at full turn on the inside of fronts.
Spacers might be the only way along with wider rims maybe?

I'm running 245/65R17 Destination AT's on pre-lowered springs with no rubbing. I would think that 245/70R17's would fit well with the Rusty's lift. That's one of the combinations I'm thinking about. It would be the same size as a 245/75R16. There are quite a few to choose from also. You've got the Destination AT's and MT's, Wrangler Silent Armors, and AT Revos available in the 245/70R17. I was also thinking that a 1" wheel spacer would put the stance very similar to the Moabs.

They're aluminum spacers that move your wheels outward.

basically a smaller wheel that you mount your wheel to.. If they are not strong enough they will cause problems in the long run.

Is this a common mod? That doesnt seem like it would be that strong to me, but it would do what I want to do. Are they good for mostly highway travel? What kind of problems could you expect

Try eBay
look for the stock tires from a JK Rubicon
I think that they are BFG MT's from a 17" wheel?

Maybe some one with a JK rubi can chime in on tire size but I think that they would work?

JK Rubi stock BFGs are 32" tires. Those would rub like mad.

So what tire would be wider to give a good stance, be good on highway (95%) but still have an aggressive tread that looks good and is more functional than what I have?

I am looking for opinions on Fuzion tires.. and there is a proof that someone is running them on 17" with 245 size without problems.
you might wanna investigate those tires.

No rubbing issues? I run 245/65/16' on Moab rims but I still have the original 17" that came with my limited. I was looking at Revos in 17 primarily for weight reduction driving around town and stuff.

What is the rubbing threshold that it will be dangerous or destructive to the tire? I assume any type of rubbing is a risk..
I mean rubs at turns only is acceptable, or rub at flex. Otherwise if it will be rubbing at potholes or speed bumps, you are asking for trouble.

JK Rubis are the wrong bolt pattern, they went to a 5X5 inch went they made the new Jeep. I like my Nokian Vatiivas more and more all the time, they make them in 17 inch tires. Smooth and quiet on the road, great traction in rain, snow, etc. so far. Wouldn't be my off road only/ mudder/rock garden choice, but they haven't left me in the boonies yet. They were considerably cheaper than BFGs and Revos with the same or better warranty, wear ratings, etc.

If you look at my sig line you can see what I'm running. The back tires when stuffed to hit. I had to take the front spacers off until I get some time to play around with the wheel liner plastic. It was hitting when I make a sharp turn. The spacers shifted the contact point. I had it to where there was no rub, then added the spacers and got new rub points.

My 2 reasons for spacers were:

1. A better "look"
2. To off set the roll over point when lifted

I may be wrong but it seems that lifting would make it more prone to roll over. Actually, that part is a given. But, giving it a wider stance with the spacers should negate the effect of the lift.

I love the wider stance on KJ. Just looking great look at this.
I would prefer wider tires, though, but even with wider tires, you would need spacers.

So when you added spacers you got new rub points?

What are good tires for 17" Freedom wheels?
