Has anyone painted their soft 8's? I would really like the wheels to be flat black rather than the gloss. Was thinking of sanding them down some and painting them flat.

I have been in the paint business for years. Anytime you go with a flat finish it seems to hold debri and dirt, once that happens it seems to increase the rate of oxidation and deteriation of the finish. This leads to rust and or corrosion. With the price of wheels I would think the longer they last the better. The same goes for house paint for instance that why the house paints that claim a long life have some sort of sheen, it stops dirt and debrie from stay on the house. Years ago when oil base paint was more prevalent the paint would chalk which allowed a self cleaning effect on the house hence a longer life. Just my 2 cents worth.

I agree with Rush345, but you could do this if you want...theyre your wheels do what ya want with em...if you do decide to snad em down and hit em with the can, Id make sure to hit em with a primer as well if you might be worried bout rust and all that was mentioned by Rush345 then hit em with the flat black...some might think this is overkill but Id recommend it if you are worried, my $.02 cents Also make sure to sand a good amount of the gloss off and make sure its scuffed up nicely, for obvious reasons Id hope. Maybe go with a satin black instead of a total flat black and still use the primer...heck I would only scuff the original paint anyway then primer then paint.

I have spray bombed many steel wheels. Some were from the early 70's. Saw tons of light rust, but never anything deep. Go ahead and paint em any color you like. They will last longer than the Jeep.

WELL COULD YOU JUST PAINT PRIMER AND THEN GLOSS BLACK AND THEN FLAT BLACK ON TOP OF THAT??? I MEAN YEA ITS A LOT OF COATS BUT MAYBE LIKE PRIMER A COAT OR 2 AND THEN A COAT OF GLOSS AND THEN FLAT ON TOP?
