Post subject:  215/85...will they rub?

I came across a set of 6 of these tires, almost brand new, too cheap to pass up, so I grabbed them, as they are a 31" tire. My stock STs are about worn out and I need the new treads on before serious snow.

Traditionally everyone gets a lift to fit the 245/75s, but those are a full inch wider than these pizza cutters, so I'm wondering if these skinnies will rub with no lift. This is on an 05 sport CRD. Does the rub with 245s typically happen at full steering lock, or am I looking at rub just going over speed bumps and stuff? I don't plan on seriously flexing her out this winter, but I'm saving up for the CRD Frankenlift to eventually clear these babies.

I would think ,and I could be wrong
If you stick with the OE wheels and do the old pound the pinch you will be OK
but if you go off road you will have issues

I ran 245/70/16 and they rubbed just slightly at full lock so you should have much trubble with your 215/85 except if any at full lock ( I have an 2002) so Im not positive on yours. as a DD you should be OK.

I have wanted to find out how they would do myself.....so if you do try them pls let us know how they work out.. I am ready to buy tires and if those will work I may just go with that size.

Most of the 215/85's I looked at were actually between 30.4 - 30.6 inches tall.

Is 2002 the year before they came lowered from the factory?

one of the jeep dealer guys told me that with stock and no lift you can go up to a full inch over stock. stock being 29". He said anything up to 30" shouldn't rub (of course each jeep fares a bit different) but in general, anything over 30" will have a much better chance of rubbing and over 30", approaching 31" will definitely rub. FWIW.
