| Post subject: | Speedometer Recalibration |
May be a dumb question but after I put on my 245/70 16 Grabber AT2s will my speedometer be affected enough to have it recalibrated? Thanks for the help. |

my speedo is off by 3 mph @ 70 mph with 31.10.5's on a 15 inch rim. speedo was off by 11 mph @ 70 mph with 265/75/r16 on moab rims. speedo was not off at all while running 245/75/r16 on moab rims. |

I just had 247/70/16s put on and they had a little computer program that told you your new speeds at the tire shop. Each tire should have a revolution per minute number associated with it, not sure if its only based on your new diameter or weight too. They plug that number in based off your factory number and it gives you your new speed. My new tires will have me driving at 61 MPH when the speedometer reads 60 MPH....according to the computer that is. They are 29.6 inches in diameter and my stocks were 29. |

I have 245/75/16s and the speedo (pinion setting) was changed (via the body control module) by the previous owner for $100 at the dealer. It is interesting to note that the odometer did not get corrected by this change and reads 9% under. I believe that this is because on models with ABS, the odometer reading comes from the tire rotations counted by the wheel sensors and the ABS system computer. |

has anyone tried an aftermarket speedo recalibration device? I went from 2 mph under to 2.5 over with my tire change |

All KJ's from '02-'07 have a speedo sensor/tone ring one/in the rear diff where the speedo get's it reading from, not the ABS sensors. But it just so happens that the ABS uses that rear sensor on '02 KJ's with ABS since the rear only had drum brakes and doesn't have individual wheel sensors like the front wheels.
