best psi for mtrs??????

i have searched and found differnt responses. What would be the best psi for goodyear mtrs? mine are at 50psi right now but it seems a little high?

I try to stay at 40psi. I really can tell a difference in MPG between 35 and 40, but 40psi gives a much harsher ride.

do a chaulk test on them and see whare you get a good even pattern, but I would say with what I carry and with MTrs about 34/36, 40 will give you a little better mileage, but like Gris said a really rough ride!

When I was running that size MT/R 38-42psi was the best range for wear,any lower then that and you'll start wearing the outside edges,50 is a little high,knock them down to 40 and you'll be fine,and have much better wear to make them last longer.

I searched a lot when I got my MT/Rs. I was running them at 32psi for a long time. Yes that is very low, I was getting an instant 17.1mpg on the comp, 15-17mpg at 60 mph with CC on. On the highway, 12mpg at 70 mph on the highway. I read this post and inflated them to 40 psi. The ride is a bit rougher, not terrible, but I can tell a difference. My avg MPG jumped from 17.1 to 18.7 this week. Now at 60 mph with CC on I get an instant mpg of 20mpg. Much BETTER!!! I have yet to take it on the highway, but I will be making a trip from Orlando to Charlotte in 2 weeks, so we will see what happens. Overall though, I'm happy with the MPG increase despite the rougher ride, which again isn't that bad. The ride at 32psi was nice, a bit bouncy, but smooth, and off road the tires surrounded logs and rocks. I will def lower them when off road, but keep them between 38 and 40 psi on-road. ROOO-addd,,,thats a funny werd!

I've been getting equally dismal mileage in town at 30-32psi (Depending on the temperature outside). I think I'll bump it up to 35...I really don't think 40 is necessary for an otherwise stock Jeep. A tank like tjkj's or tom's will need some more pressure, but ti's an expensive tire and I REALLY don't want the middle to go bald on me :lol:

After reading this i bumped my tires up to 40 psi. I dont think its a harsher ride at all. Personally i think it drives better.

i keep my tsl radials at 40 psi rides much better.

why does my mileage suck so bad?! I keep asking this and keep getting answers and keep trying crap, but still not good.

Last month I dumped like 4 cans of seafoam into various orifaces. Got some smoke, got a WEE BIT of mileage increase, but nothing else. I don't get it.

I'm running stock tires and rims and regeared up to 4.10. Mileage should be awesome, not crappy. My average on the EVIC is like 13.5 and instant rarely goes above 15 if I'm actively driving (not coasting)

I'm pretty sur eit's not the roof rack's drag. I took the thing off for 2 full tanks of gas and got like 10 miles more than normal, which is nothing.

Or the weight of my air equip and skids maybe? I don't get it.

haha mpg is around 13-14 in town for me with mtrs.....

that could very well be it. do have mopar skids or aftermarket made from the heavier steel. Add all that up along with the air equipment you got, and that may be 200 or so extra pounds. Now that really shouldnt make your MPG that low with stock rims/tires, but will def add to the kick in the danglers. Do you have boulder bars too? I was using cruise control a lot to get the best MPG possible, I'm sure if I do it myself the avg will go down a bit. I've really tried to lay off the lead foot with the price of gas going through the roof here.

You guys that are getting poor MPG must carry bricks in your KJ
we have a completly stock drive train on our '03 Limited
we do all the recomended mait.
it has the OME lift with 245/75 MTR's
it is the wifes DD and in town she gets ~14.5 acording to the computer thing
and about 19 on the highway ,70 mph CC on flat ground
it has all the OE skids and an after market tranny skid ,home made

Now I did some math useing a GPS and found that the jeep will travle ~1.1 miles but the odomiter will show only 1 mile
this is a 10% error ,that is HUGE
the true number was 1.08 IIRC but math on 10% is way easy
Now knowing that the od. is off 10% the rest of the system is off 10%
so realy she gets about 16 mpg city and 21 on the highway
almost stock
now it is not that she does not carry stuff just that she carries baby stuff not tools and tow straps
