I've been toying with the idea of getting a second set of rims and tires for off-roading and saving my stockers for road trips.
I was looking for suitable wheels, on Summit's site, and ran across the availability of ordering Crager wheels with a custom backspacing.
I was wondering if anyone here had done this.
My hope was to find a 15 inch steel wheel with enough backspace, probably 5 or 5 1/2 inches, so I could run some 30x9.50/15's. I've been going through as many old threads as I can find on running 15 inch rims and, unfortunately, I'm still not sure what will really work, if anything. I know the Soft 8's, D Windows and Rock Crawlers will clear the calipers and too little backspace will create substantial rubbing problems. What I don't know is what kinds of clearance issues would turn up with a closer to stock backspacing.
My second choice would be to get a set of 17x7 steelies with a 5 or 5 1/2 inch backspace to run a set of the new BFG KM2's since they offer them in an LT245/70R17. I know I'd probably need to add a clevis lift and pound the pinch weld, but no big deal.
