| Post subject: | Help! I need to swap my sensors... |
I'm trying to swap the sensors from my stock wheels over the to 16" liberty rims I picked up, but I can't break the bead on them. The 16" rims have BFG A/T's on them. I tried deflating one by removing the valve core and then using a long 2x4 wedged under my pt cruiser with a small narrow block of wood placed right over the bead adn pushed down to try and press teh bead off, but it wouldn't budge! If I were to take them to a shop it would cost me about $100 or more to get everything done and I don't have that money available right now. Any ideas? |

You could use your jack to push down on the bead BUT to do it right you may need to pull at least one bead off, install the monitor and put the one side back on, tire would most likely need to be rebalanced then, so may be cheaper and easier to find some one to do it. Around here there are some small tire shops that do not charge a arm and leg to do it |

That was the plan, to pop off one bead, swap the sensors, reinflate the tire to seat teh bead and be off. I don't hink I will need to rebalance them because the wheels originally had sensors on them and were not rebalanced after they were taken off. I'll try it again tonight, maybe I'll get lucky. |

I did it. I used my drill press as a brace and used the screw jack out of the jeep to pop the bead off. It worked like a charm! I was able to get the sensors swapped on all 5 tires last night in about 2 hours or so. about 20 minutes of that was spent trying to fish the sensor out of the tire on the spare. But now they are all done and all I need to do know is drive it and see if they need to be balanced too. They shouldn't be off by much, if at all. The tires and wheels had sensors on them originally and were balanced with them on, plus the tires have not been moved on the rims so they should be fine. we shall see today. |

I drove to work today and reached 45-50 mph several times and never noticed any vibrations. I'm gonig to take it up to 65 or so tomorrow and check that as well. So far, so good! |
