| Post subject: | Best Tire size/Lift height combo ..your opinions please! |
Hey guys! I plan on getting new tires soon and instead of staying with the stock 235/70R16, instead I'd like to be more confident in clearing the soft sand on the beach. And also as some of you know that live here, surviving in NJ requires maaad highway skills as well AND to top it off NJ is really strict on vehicles passing inspection with lifts TOO high. So with that being said, what tire size/lift height combo will make me wiiide & not get "top heavy" on the highways, and also give me just a little further bump up off of the ground for the beach buggyin? Any combo recommendations would be much-appreciated, thanks! sug tire brand: BFG T/A KOs sug tire size?: sug lift height?: sug lift brand?: |

I know you didn't list it as a question, but have you considered the grabbers? They have a tread pattern VERY similar to the BFGs for significantly less. Although some folks do seem to get units that are hard to balance, most appear very satisfied. sug tire brand: General grabber AT2 sug tire size?: sug lift height?: sug lift brand?: |

Within the limits of maintaining the front CV joint angles - you can't really go high enough to be top heavy - max is really about 2 1/2 inches (there are some folks trying 4-6 in lifts - but those are serious suspension games) Jason's 265/75/16 is the largest you can reasonably fit in that lift - and it will require pulling the wheel well liners, trimming the bumper, and hammering the pinch welds. That might be overkill for what you want. The OME lift gives the best ride - but it's only about 1 1/2 by itself - Jason gets more by adding a Clevis lift and rear spacers. however that 1 1/2 will easily get you 245/75/16 or a 265/70/16 - the 265 is wider - better for sand This is the generic tire chart, it'll give you a good starting point. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=958 |

Just an fyi, I had to trim the front air dam and I need to do the pinch welds with a 2-1/2" lift and I am running 245/75r16's on Moabs. This is just to drive on the street, not sure how much rubbing will occure when I take it into the mountains this weekend. It seems to be a good height though. At first it rode very rough, but after a few days it settled and it drives good. It doesn't feel top heavy at all. This seems to be a fairly good combination if you are not going to really wheel and it sounds like you won't be. |
