Post subject:  Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo’s VS G.Y. Wrangler Silent Armor

I am toying between these two tires. According to the stats on tirerack the Revo’s seem to do better in dry, wet and corning. In the snow the Wranglers seem like they are just a little bit better. However, I have a few questions I can’t seem to find the answers to and I’ve read the various posts in these forums as well. Currently I have the stock 235/70/16 Goodyear Wrangler SR-A’s. I plan to go a size up to 245/70/16 however, for these questions let’s just assume I will keep the same tire size so everything is constant.

1 – Which tire is better off road? Most of my “off road” will be dirt trails, some mud, and sand. Not much rock crawling.

2 – Which tire will have better mpg? The Revo’s are 2lbs lighter per tire and 0.1” taller so I would guess I would get better mpg with that than the Wrangler right? However, there also seems to be more rubber contact which would create more friction (and better grip.)

3 – Is there a noticeable noise difference between the two?

4 – Finally, can anyone tell me if their MPG went up or down after they switched to either one of these tires after their stock SR-A’s? If so was it a lot or not enough to even notice?

I had the Revo's on my 4Runner and they kicked arse! Expect for a little road noise with highway speeds, they worked great in the snow. Firestone dealer even told me they are better than the Blizzaks that he sold.

REVOs are a VERY highly rated tire!

That led me to buy (2) sets already. First set went on a 98 Explorer and I have a set on my 98 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins Turbo-Diesel.

I absolutely LOVE these tires! No sliding around on wet pavements and go through snow/ice like it's not even there!

I'm currently shopping for a set for my wife's 05 Liberty right now.

Unfortunately, the shop where I bought the (2) previous sets has a new booty clown running the counter and wanted $917 for a set of 245/70-16s REVOs!!

See my thread in this Sub-forum to see the shake down he "tried" to lay on me!

If I can find a set of REVOs for under $600 INSTALLED, they WILL be on my wife's Liberty VERY soon! If not, then I'll have to find something else.

I haven't had both sets so I can't compare them. You can see in my sig. line that I have the Armor's. Living in FL I have not run in snow with them. I have been in lots of sand, mud and gravel. I have no complaints on any of these surfaces. They are quiet on the highways also. Good traction on wet/dry highways. I have gone up some real steep dirt trails with no traction problems. I hope this is helpful for you.

I vote for the Revo's also. I have them on my F250 PSD with over 40K on them and they are just starting to wear. They're going on my wife's '03 Lib asap. I'm getting them from the Tire Rack.

How about the mpg? Did it go up or down when you put these tires on? I've been leaning to the Revo's but I go back and forth. In the end the extra 0.1" diameter and 2lbs less than Silent Armors might do it. I figure every little bit of height can help but more importantly the weight saved I think will have a bigger impact. The stock 235/70/16 SR-A’s are 32lbs and the 245/70/16 Revos are 36lbs compared to 38lbs in the same size with the Silent Armors. A difference of 4lbs per tire and 16 total is better than 6lbs per tire and 24 overall.
