Let's talk snow

If a thread like this has already been made, will a mod please close it or something?

The point is to post here what kind of tires you run/have run, and how you rate them for winter performance.

General Grabber AT2
I put these on in the beginning of the fall so this is my first winter. We just got dumped on with snow over the past few days, and I'm impressed so far. Off the line in 2 or 4wd traction is far superior to the factory goodyears, under braking it takes a lot more to lock the tires/trigger ABS on the ice. Driving through deep snow these just dominate. I went driving through ditches in the country, some fields, gullies, ect, with snow almost up to my knee (i'm 5' 9") and it didnt even slow me down. The treads clean themselves great. They just really power through everything I've gone through. I'm talking pushing snow with my bumper, leaving a flat path behind me from the undercarriage 'cause I'm unlifted, kind of deep snow. The only thing that could make these better is if I got them studded, and if I'd gone with a narrower size. 245/75 is a standard upgrade size i know but its still really wide, if I were to run a different tire in the winter I'd go taller and narrower. My basis for comparison of "real" tires is pretty much limited to BFG all terrains I had on a Dakota, and these are at least as good if not better.

Same tires here. Can't say enough about them. Last Saturday we got 8" and I drove around for a few few hours in it, they exceeded my expectations. We have about 3" on the ground over the partially frozen snow pack, so when I am done with work I get my second chance at running them in one week! :twisted:

Any change from the goodyears is a good move. My SR-A's have sucked on wet pavement from day one. Those AT2's are getting a lot of good reviews here and on the other jeep board I frequent.

It doesn't snow much in Michigan anymore, but the other day we did get a light coating of a couple inches of snow. Running Destination A/T's, in full time 4wd I was able to make it across metro detroit in decent time without any problems. Drove on [compacted] snow covered roads and didn't slide around any corners. Drove through some nice slushy ruts and didn't notice anymore pull aboove the normal amount.

The tires are about 1 year old. The tread depth I think has played the biggest role in the performance of these tires so far... I wonder how they'll perform over the next couple of years.

I too have just picked up a set of AT2 and have fallen in love with them. going from the stock Goodyear HP to these was a great choice. I was a bit nervous going to a AT tire never having had them before but was i not let down. Snow and deep snow traction is great; it takes a lot to break these tires loose in snow. And as far as road manners are concerned I have zero complaints so far. They are noisier, but I was expecting that from the type of tire they are and definitely is something I can live with.

Both the AT2, and the BFG AT's they mimic, earned the little snowflake symbol for winter traction. May not be as good as a true snow tire, but among the best AT's/all seasons for snow.

You can also get the Grabber's studded (they come pinned for studs already).
