Post subject:  faulty ABS AND Speedometer with bigger tires???

Ok, so I contacted a couple local pros to get pricing on replacing the tires on my stock(non-lifted) reny from Goodyears to General Grabber AT2s 245/70/16 and here's what one company replied...

"Replacing the tires is not a problem, as long as you can verify there will not be a fitment issue with the tires once on the vehicle. You are changing the width and the height of the tire, so even though it fits on the rim, it may rub on a part of the vehicle. Also the ABS may not work correctly and the speedometer will be off slightly."

YIKES! FAULTY ABS AND SPEEDOMETER?!?! Hly Craap..What now?? Should I look into getting the gear ratio changed?..Is that something you all have done as part of putting on bigger tires? ((Or are they just covering their rear in case something should go wrong?))

you definitely change the speedometer - in fact mine went from reading too fast - to dead on -when I went from the stock 225 to 245/75/16. Several other folks have found theirs more accurate with the larger tires. Stock tends to be off.

your local Jeep dealer should be able to have the computer correct for the tire size -
(this does vary from free, to 1/2 hour charge, to it can't be done - depending on the dealer)

The ABS shouldn't be an issue - however the brakes as a whole will not be as effective - bigger tires - more leverage - requires more torque to have the same deceleration rate i.e. you have to step on the brake a little harder - shouldn't be too much of an issue - but it will be different.
