Lug Nuts

Guys,
what replacement lug nuts do you all recommend. I have the old standard problem of factory lugs breaking their end caps, especially now that its freezing out. I went to autozone the other day and bought a package of 4 (1/2 - 20 lugs) nuts that are specified for the KJ. I took them home and went to replace the two broken lug nuts on the wheels. I found that my factory lug wrench would not fit over the lug nuts...they were just a hair to big on their outside diameter. while they are the proper size nut, my tire iron is useless for these so I took them back. They had no other nuts they could recommend....of COURSE they recommend just getting a new lug iron, but with a dozen or more good factory lugs still on the car, I was trying to avoid buying 20+ new lug nuts AND a lug wrench.

Can you guys recommend any solid nuts that fit our KJs and still can be installed/removed with the tire iron that is under the back seat?? I know its a silly question, but I thought I could just buy some replacement nuts without having to replace ALL of them and the wrench too. I don't want to spend $7 a pop at the stealership for nuts that are going to break again in short time anyhow. Boy do these lug nuts suck.

Hopefully someone else will chime in to confirm but I believe the factory wrench only fits the factory nuts.

I had the same problem, but I change all mine out with solid lugs and got the wrench for $30 total (including the spare tire). I dont think they are anything special but they look exactly like the factory ones and are solid not capped. Havent had a bit of problems in close to two years.

thanks for the info...just as I was suspecting...those factory sensored word!! LOL....anyhow, can you recommend the solid ones you got? who's the maker if you recall?? thanks for the heads up. I suppose if I have to buy all new with a new wrench then so be it.

I've still got my factory lug nuts on. 2 are now missing their caps so when I go to my firestone dealer I will ask them to put on some solid lug nuts. I don't care what brand they are as long as they aren't like these things..

McGard lug nuts and Gorilla Power Wrench. Remember lug nuts are what hold your wheels your Jeep..... :lol:

the factory lug wrench will fit any 3/4" nut. You don't want to crank down on the lugnuts with one of those giant lug wrenches...the torque range is 85-115 ft lbs...an over-torqued lug nut is as bad as an under-torqued one. a stud only has so much strength to distribute in every direction and when you put too much torque on it, the stud stretches, and it's generally just a BAD thing.

Sorry Thunderbird, I didnt log back on last night and I'm at work now. I will take a look and see what brand they are and get back to you.

I dont think they are anything special but they look exactly like the factory ones, they are just a little longer and stick out of the rim a little further (very minimal). Like I said though, I have had zero problems.

I hated the factory ones, every rotation I would have to replace at least three a couple of days later. At $6-$8 a piece, I switched them real quick
